SDP back to old pattern

Now that you mention, SDP boycotted Speakers' Corner when it first started, both in action and words. Some years later, they silently forgot about that and went in. When SC liberalized protests, they also denounced the place, but later, again, went in. But their supporters would claim SC as a SDP victory.

It's the same with CD. SDP held illegal protests more than 4 times a year for 2 years and in the last 3 years totally stopped. Only their supporters found that consistent and brave.

I haven't raised all these to state why my support for SDP will never be unequivocal but since the credit for SC came up, might as well.

I've been telling anybody who bothers, to vote even for a monkey, a used tissue paper, etc, etc, to deny the White Scums. So that includes voting for SDP because only healthy competition always, always benefits the consumers. Once we have enough healthy competition, enough choices, true pink Singaporeans can slowly decide for themselves which way they want to go.

However I will also not forget to add that we must be watching SDP/CSJ closely. If they try another stupid stunt to give Oppo cause a bad name/alienate the silent, daft Majority then all bets are off.

It is closer to the truth than not where many people are concerned. There are Singaporeans who fear opposition politics because they identify opposition politics with arrests and troubles. Some get arrests and troubles, others look for them. Those who look for them, of course, cannot say they are absolved from creating such a perception.

Sorry to say you are not being truthful. The fear of joining politics was planted by LKY. He arrested his opponents at will. The misuse of the ISA, the law suits, threats, bankruptcies, intimidation, loss of jobs, etc. were the reasons keeping ppl from joining politics. Not the SDP brand.

Are you talking about pre-independence or post-independent times? It is obvious that PAP is to blame and public pressure has reduced their use of ISA, legal suits and in recent times defamation suits seems to have reduced. Even grassroots venues are "visitable" by opposition MPs. All in the opposition should use these opportunities before people stop caring and opposition become once again vulnerable to hardball tactics.

I never said the SDP brand causes people to stay away from opposition. The new SDP-Chee came in 1993 after the last ISA detention in 1987. The last political detention was in 1967. It's their tactics that need to refine and obviously they agree. Only their supporters do not.

But can you deny some embarrassingly stupid politicians just dunno when to not overstep and give free ammo to get sued, threatened, intimidated, lost jobs, etc, etc
