Preferential treatment during National Service?

I find this quite a hypocritical topic. Most of us rich or poor would find ways to avoid or cushion NS if we could.

This is an amazing response.
The issue here is not whether Patrick Tan dutifully served his two and a half years. We all know he did.
Neither is it whether he filled in all the correct forms to get disruption, whether he loves the country, whether he was willing to serve his NS like other guys, whether he is a clever man, whether he likes research or is good at it, whether the rest of us would find ways to avoid or cushion NS, etc etc. The answer to all these questions is probably yes.

The issue is how he managed to do something during NS which he happens to like, as evidenced by the fact that he is still doing the same thing. It can't be because he's merely good at it, because thousands of NSFs are and were in vocations and units which they neither like or are good at. There's no evidence that his father helped him. But the fact is that he got what he wanted, which rarely ever happens during national service. They don't call it "national service" for nothing.

The logical conclusion must be that he is a super world class scientist, who had to do what he did during his NS, otherwise Singapore "would be in trouble". We are now eagerly awaiting with bated breath his earth shattering breakthrough research findings.

If the opposition is smart, they will gather up the names of thousands of NSmen that disrupted for overseas studies in engineering, bus. ad, etc. Come back to do NS and end up as infantry NCO or Officers, MT drivers, etc. Totally unrelated to their field of studies. If they did not get a vocation related to their field, why should Paturd Tan get it?

Also the statistics on brilliant soldiers who disrupted for 12 years and got exactly the posting they wanted.
How many of them are still doing the same thing they were doing during NS?
I suppose the fruits of that world changing research would be released soon for the benefit of Singaporeans huh.

Rich and influential people have got what they wanted for years since the beginning of time, not only in SG but all over the world. Some animals are more equal than others of course.

What irks me most is that they appear to be planning a bullshit wayang show, to "convince" all sceptical Singaporeans that everything was in order. Yes, we know that he served two and a half years dutifully and he loves the country. What we are waiting for is the incredible research findings.

"Appear to be planning" I thought the director had already shouted "Action"!

In fact, the drama company had just aired the first episode for this mystery suspense and thriller drama about a patriotic genius scientist who risked life and limb in a dangerous air-condition office to save the lives of soldiers and felllow citizens:o:biggrin:

After watching, all viewers were kept in extreme suspense with everyone guessing on the outcome in the final concluding episode.

............
