Let's look at things from another perspective. So TKL garnered only 5% of the votes & lost his $48K deposit. He may have received a black eye & even become the butt of many unkind jokes but he is not exactly unloved. Many including yours truly gave him credit where credit is due. At least he offered himself as a candidate with all the attendant risks of an underdog,a political unknown, an idealistic novice! The grapevine tells me that many captains of industry who can easily satisfy the PEC criteria chose to play it safe & remain in their comfy closets, preferring to see humiliation than being humiliated themselves. Perhaps they lacked self-belief in the face of the PAP juggernaut! At the very least, TKL dared to try! The much maligned TJS won the hearts of at least half a million voters, despite the government press ganging up against him.To many he is also Presidential material. Hey, that's very solid support for another underdog.As for the 2 Dr Tans, it is obvious PAP can live comfortably with either of them although admittedly, TT is their anointed one.Hmm, so the results went according to script! Recriminations & the blame game now begins. TJS & TKL, the scapegoats for DR TCB failing to win the election. Imho,TCB just did not punch hard enough or to put it bluntly, he was playing it safe! Although already a political bantamweight, he boxed like a light featherweight. He is a fence-sitter courting both the PAP faithfuls & the opposition diehards & in the end, he lost by a whisker. So he should only kick himself hard! TJS or TKL do not owe him anything & vice versa.

I am meeting Cheng Bock sometime in the next fortnight and will tell him truthfully why I knew he would find it hard to cross the line even though I had hoped for his or a TJS' win. And that is his lacklustre performance during the PE campaign, as admitted by even the most ardent of TCB's supporter in this forum.

Lacklustre performance? Losing to TT and the entire PAP/Govt machinery by 0.34% with a rag-tag team of volunteers is lacklustre? It may not have been what you would like to see in an EP campaign, but it definitely based on his idea of what the campaigning should be about.

He fought a disciplined battle, within the boundaries of what is expected of the EP. No empty promises and clear articulation of what he intends to do if elected. And effectively reaching out to the mainstream voters in the heartlands. The only issue was the perception on the Internet that TJS is the front runner which attracted many tactical voters which could have tilted the balance.
