Opposition should see the BIGGER picture: INFLATION

INFLATION continues to creep up and is now at an 18-month high, driven by costlier transport, housing and food.

The consumer price index (CPI), which measures the price of a basket of goods, rose 3.3 per cent in August compared to the same month last year and 0.5per cent compared to July.

But economists do not regard the inflation level as a threat to the economy or high enough to prompt the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to tinker with its exchange rate strategy.

Transport was the main culprit last month, rising 9 per cent year-on-year as tighter COE quotas drove up car prices - although this eased from July's 10.7 per cent rise.

Housing, which makes up a quarter of the CPI basket, was up 3.1 per cent in August from a year ago.

Food, which has been in the picture with recent weather-related shocks, was up 1.7 per cent.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opposition should work on this issue which is affecting the whole nation. Not the death penalty, casino levy, or any small niggling issues and trying to make it into mountain.

The economists views means they are going to sit on it like the property bubble issue and only work on it when it has gone sky high. If there is no action, inflation will hurt us even more in time to come.

This is 1 big issue that opposition should question the PAP govt on what are the steps taken to handle inflation

Difficult to sway people on this because the solution is only subsidy and that only means money from a different pocket.

The compounding effect is going to kill everyone else and interests in savings accounts are not enough to wipe off this inflation.

Inflation is invisible in the eyes of many, that is why many people do not feel much till one day they realised why they are paying for 80cts prev and now its $1.40

It's a silent killer and if there are no moves to curb, the nation can be crippled. Also it is not an easy issue to tackle at all.

Can our govt take action? I don't think they are taking any.
Will the opposition take up this issue to the govt and spread it to the people how inflation will kill? This is the thing that affects our everyday life.
