U can have sentiment to the land but loyalty to the regime is another matter. Let don't mix up the 2.

I agree..we can love SG...but dont mix up that in order to love SG, we must love the pap.

The country stays but the political party can come and go.

Nationality has become an archaic concept in the modern world of globalisation.

some values are universal despite globalisationa dn technological advancements.

love for country, love for families, care for the needy are universal values which anchor us .

if we have no love, we are just like any animal

A government cannot function without tax from the people. So, is the PAP ever grateful to the people for their sacrifices and trust?
No. the government is doing a lot of funny things behind the peoples' back in the name of national security / state secret.

Very true..

We shouldn't be taking such a short term perspective when talking about a country. LKY has such a myopic view and we shouldn't be like him. To LKY, he considers S'pore already a success story when it's barely 50 years as a nation. Being an ego-maniac, he does that because he only sees things with reference to himself, within his own lifetime.

People always say if PAP is voted out, all that we have build up would be lost. That's a short term view which the PAP has been brainwashing us with. We must take a longer perspective of things. Yes, once the PAP is voted out, S'pore has to rebuild itself and there would be pain and suffering in the course of doing so. Anything worthwhile doing can be achieved only with pain and suffering. But for S'pore to continue to have a hope for our next generation and the next. the only way is to disentrench and unwind ourselves from all the perverted policies of the PAP. That would take some time but the end result is all the worth it.

A nation's history is a very long one and you cannot measure success in such a short timeframe as the PAP does. We are only fooling ourselves if we do. As we can see now, all PAP policies are now crumbling as it is only now that they being really tested. It's pretty obvious to all that their policies are failing. We should therefore be prepared to move S'pore into a new phase by voting out the PAP for that's the only way S'pore ever has hope of ensuring a long history. If we stick onto the present govt, the end is pretty near. There will be some short term pain during the rebuilding phase as we get a new govt that cares for its people, but the future will be definitely be brighter. That's what being loyal to S'pore is all about. It has nothing to do whatsoever with LKY or PAP. Both will be dead soon, though the former will even be sooner.

Good analysis and well said. Thanks

Singapore belongs to Lee Kuan Yew you twit. Surely that's dawned on you after more than 40 years of PAP rule.

No, it doesn't. I'm tempted to call you twit too, but shall refrain from doing so less I drop to your level of name calling. Enjoy your weekend in Auckland (maybe go shack some sheeps?)

I agree with you. No Singaporean can claim that he is worth more than another Singaporean. We are all the same...Any Singaporean who thinks that LKY is worth more than him is truly worthless and useless.

In my morning jogs, I meet SR Nathan frequently when he was President. I dont mean to be rude...but I do ignore him even when I come face-to-face with him. If he smiles, I smile back...a Singaporean to another Singaporean. No more, no less.

I will do the same to LKY. Why shd he be more than me. In my eyes, LKY can be as big or as small as I allow him to be.

To some PAP running dogs, I may sound arrogant to ignore SR Nathan or LKY. But I know my position as a Singaporean. And I dont have to kowtow to LKY if I dont wish to

We all have our place in society. Whoever we are, we carry ourselves with pride and dignity, be pleasant and polite when we engage with people, be humble and compassionate.

LKY has done much for Singapore, I would respect him for that. If I see him in a park, I would smile and wave at him. But he's not God. I would not worship him and think that he can do no wrong. One day (won't be very long), he will become part of history and whether he leaves behind a legacy for future generations to remember, or curse, only time will tell. But great as the man is, Singapore does not belong to him. Or anyone for that matter.

Absolutely. We smile to one another because we are gracious and want to extend courtesy to others. We dont view that person as superior nor worth more

Yes I have fond memories of the places I grew up in but this cannot be translated to loyalty to the country aka PAP. Loyalty is an absolutely outdated thinking in this globalize village.
