how many days to celebrate the new year

Today I saw many Chinese going shopping already. Some have gone to play golf.
is that it !!
only need the first day to celebrate the new year ?
we don't have enough relatives to visit. At least once a year !
And there are some who went on holidays during this period.
Just to avoid giving angpows maybe ??

next time more companies will hire more foreigners...........so no reservist............no RT..............and no CNY or Hari Raya, etc etc..........
