Thanks for adding these to the thread...makes me more certain that Donald puts LHL in his pocket..
and HK doesnt need to descend to rely on casinos to help the economy
the governor of HK, Donald is a puppet of Beijing.
nothing gets done without the approval of Beijing tacit or otherwise.
now that his term is up, whoever takes over from him, is not up to HKer to decide but Beijing.
at least for LHL,if he is not elected the MP of Ang Mo Kio, he won't smell the appointment letter for PM.
HK government is more lassie-faire, hands-off due the unique environment of HK society. HK society are more entrepreneur - HK SMEs outnumber SG many many times. HKers are more cunning, street smart due to years of dealing amongst themselves / amongst PRCs.
My xperience with HKers are, they are very piah. their PR skills is much much better and they can kill you without you knowing.
the flip side, nothing much gets done, due to apparent more democratic environment - a lot of bickering. You see that long-haired MP throwing eggs at Donald Tsang in parliament. Just an example of building the high speed railway from HK to Guangzhou, got approved / land acquisition after very long time.
business acumen / business environment / transport service / cultural / social activities wise, HK is much ahead of SG. But in terms of safety & security, we are still better.
and importantly, HK has the comfort / security blanket to suck the tits of Beijing if all else fail, SG? No tits to nurse us if we cannot manage on our own.
At the moment,S China provides the hinderland for HK for its manufacturing / service. But Shanghai is fast catching up in terms of becoming a financial metropolis and international city. In fact according to some, it has overtaken New York as the global city.
HK's future is not all that bright = but because of the entrepreneur spirit and years of laisse-faire attitude of the government, the people are more resilient than SG.
and yes, HK copied our CPF scheme.

HK will survive because of the Institutions and people. SG's key institutions are sucha disgrace becuase of pap's manipulation.
CPF scheme was passed down from the British era?
IIRC CPF was started in the British colonia era, yes, but by the autonomous local government who had been given domestic adminstrative powers. It was supposed to be for retirement, replacing the British social welfare system. HDB was also started around the same time, supposedly for affordable roofs over everyone's head. After independence, PAP got the brilliant idea of linking CPF to HDB and medical costs and started going into business of selling flats and insurance. They all become multi-millionnaires.
Hong Kong is no paradise. They have their fair share of dirty backlanes, a problem with the underclass, sky high property prices, etc. HK govt appears better because allow for more democracy and activist voices to be heard, and draw a salary that is both reasonable and respectable.
However its certainly not a country i would like to live in or migrate to.
Linking CPF to housing, healthcare and share trading releases immediate liquidity to the system and gives the pap ta means to overcharge Singaporeans in housing and health care.
Smart Singaporeans shd go for full health care subsidy and if they are old enough, refuse to go for expensive medical treatment, so that their dependents are not burdened with over-inflated treatment costs. This suggestion may sound irrational but it's worth a thorough consideration
Singaporeans should know the evil scheme of the pap and vote them out before the pap do more damage to the SG brand
No country on this side of heaven is paradise. But HK govt is more truthful and compassionate than the pap
