Some of the main reasons for the problems in the south are precisely because the people there are left behind economically, in education, opportunities etc....so i dunno where your higher income and education stats come from.

The problem in the south started with and by this symbol; one need to read up and decipher the meaning in this symbol and all will be clear. Like I'd said its got to do with sensitive stuff which can get one into trouble if loosely posted here.
Everywhere in Thailand is poor be it NE or North or South. However the south is blessed with a nicer weather and landscape which allows them to grow more and better fruits and crops and even rubber and palm. Problem is lots of these are controlled by conglomerates so its the same situation as in the other areas in Thailand.
Coming to education, if I may be allowed to use the university ranking of Thailand as a guide among the top 50 universities in Thailand only 3 universities from the south made to the list: Hat Yai (7th place) ; Nakhon Si Thammarat (34th place) ; Songkla (45th place). Bangkok has 22 in the list ; Central (around Bangkok) has 7 ; North has 9 and Northeast (Isaan) has 9. I think the results speaks for itself. I live in Bangkok and among the Bangkokians, southern Thais are considered the least educated and the people very rough and hot tempered with its idiosyncrasies.

Looking at things happening seems like there is going to be a Rama X. Internal struggle is very clear now, most Thais can see it between the only male heir and the fat one. But the male side is gaining power fast and furious, see the recent failed protests and efforts from the fat one, very mediocre. Republic of Thailand? I really don't think so. Say what you like, Thais are very proud to have a monarchy and they will defend it, also Thais have this salve metality they like to be enslaved, it is true only when you live with them then you will know.
Not within our lives Pii Narong as much as I like to see this. I believe out of real love for Thailand he will remain in the back ground till the end. Thailand is deeply divided and any effort from both sides showing some colour will garner the people to flow to the opposite side due to fear.
