The leadership renewal in PAP is carried out at every General Election so that older MPs and Ministers can give way to younger MPs and potential Ministers.
We should not be surprised to learn that LTY , MBT and other MPs are retiring from the scene. If not, the younger leaders will not have the opportunity and also the much needed length of service to hone their political experience and build their capability to helm a ministry.

LTY's resignation is not planned leadership renewal. His resignation is a slap to LHL and rejection of LHL's leadership

Leadership renewal also includes retiring those MPs and even Ministers who did not perform to expectations. This is the virtue of the meritocratic system. It is much like the private sector's performance management system. I am sure for LTY , he knows and accepts the rules of the game; after all he himself had done it many times on his own subordinates and staff under him.
