Yes I've eaten at the Mondor & had a milk shakes at the Magnolia bars.

If I remember correctly there were 3 Magnolia bars. One next to the Arcade, one in the Capitol building & one next to Cold Sorage. Spent my time mostly in Orchard Road after Robinson at Raffles place was burn't down. In those days Orchard Road was a 2 way street & it had Pharmacies, indian shops, bicycle shops, photo studio, car show rooms,... It was for many down town.

I never went to Tivoli but to the stores next to it. Can't remember the shopping centre name, it is where the Paragon is standing today at the junction of Orchard & Bidford Road.

Thanks, good sharing!

Someone mentioned that the site was Fitzpatrick's, near to Bideford Road

Its was called The Orchard shopping center...also had stores selling upmarket branded goods then.
Fitzpatricks was next to it.....later became the promenade shopping centre. Now both sites occupied by paragon

If I remember correctly Tivoli was next to the Orchard Centre, or maybe part of the building & next to it was Fitzpatricks. The main reason I remember this building is because I bought some camping torch light from there. I remember seeing some stores selling upmarket attache cases but nothing as upmarket as what you find today along Orchard Road

It is now more about expensive branded clothes which is understandable because the rentals are so high. It is also very crowded during the weekends around little Philippines.

SG is in deep trouble economically, politically and socially. All these are due to LHL's and PAP's flawed policies over the last 10years

LHL didn't forsee two major changes ...the internet and ease of air travel

the internet gives the people instant information and the advent of world aviation makes air travel affordable. SG's high rentals kill the retail industry

Given our political culture, our leaders are only able on homeground where they set the rules to kill rivals. On the int'l sage, they are no match for rivals. Having sound biz acumen is not their forte. Laughingly, they sell themselves as if machiam experts. Jokers.

You nailed it!

Many of us felt so embarrassed when they speak like they are experts and like they know best when they can only survive in their own turf and playing according to their rules.

Chan Sek Keong's "Inside Is Not Within" ruling just to protect the pap is such an international embarrassment to Singaporeans
