Some doping cheats are inevitable, but I think that the anti-doping measures are tougher than ever. Fewer cases now.

Liu Xiang of PRC,the defending Olympic champion of 2004 is out.
there was report that he is carrying an injury.
noticed that before the start of the heat,he massage his right knee.
then at the start of the race, even before the first hurdle,he pull-out.

those PRC coming to see their hero in action are very disappointed, you can see that most of them immediately get-up from their seat and head for the exit.

Yeah. Track and field events are the last chance for the US to catch up with China on the medal tally, but very difficult with Carribeans, Africans and Europeans around. Also, China still have more medals coming up in table tennis and badminton.

US,normally gets their medals from swimming,track & field,boxing.
but with those drug cases, this Olympic their track & field seems a bit of under strength.

China should be still at the top at the end of this game.
US may have some difficulty holding on to their 2nd spot.

this morning,Lix Xiang (PRC),their star let those supporters go home very disappointed.

After China, the US and Britain, Australia has just become the 4th country to cross into double-digit gold medals with a win in women's triathlon.

After 3 days of athletics, the US have yet to win an athletic gold.

Now the top four countries are either Chinese-speaking or English-speaking, accounting for more than half of all gold medals won so far. Most Singaporeans speak both languages, but none can win.

LOL! Maybe 'cause Mandarin is the language of China the host nation, and English is the most sought-after-to-learn language in China. At the top now is China. 2nd, 3rd and 4th are the US, Australia and Britain. Add Canada and New Zealand from outside top ten to them, about half or more of all gold medals won so far. Table and figures don't bluff.

Russian is out of favour, especially after the breakup of the Soviet Union. If Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and other ex-Soviet republics combined, maybe still can be in top five at least, but now all in lower ten top or outside.

In the top ten now, 7 causcasian countries v. 3 oriental countries. USA, Australia, Britain, Germany, Russia, Italy and Ukraine v. China, South Korea and Japan. Total gold medals, 68:51 in favour of caucasian countries.

English-speaking countries' performance are about on par with previous games, with the lacklustre US performance compensated by the outperformance of Australia and Britain. For the Commonwealth nations (i.e. Britain and all ex-colonies excluding USA), it's been an outstanding performance so far. Even Singapore reappeared on the tally with a silver. Watch out for the next Commonwealth Games.

can we consider the USA a caucasian country, given that a sizable percentage of their competitors are non-white.

another thing to consider is oriental countries are fewer in number, compared to caucasian nations (the americas, oceania, all of europe and

Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong commented in the NDR that China couldn't win 300 medals even with it's population 300 times the size of Singapore's. I hope the Indians aren't feeling insulted or getting angry over it. India as of now has only one gold medal to show for it's 1 billion plus population. Anyway, if it's going to be medal per capita, I think Australia and South Korea tops over China, USA, Britain, Germany, Italy, Russia etc. Australia has only about 1/3 the population of Britain, Italy or France, and South Korea also has only 1/3 the population of Japan.

At last count American white caucasians of European descent are still about 60% majority. If we count Latin American hispanics as casucasians, it's even higher, more than 70%.

There're also many other "oriental" countries beside China, Japan and Korea, but "non-performing". India, Indonesia and Thailand contributed one gold medal each so far. The rest? No sound no picture except a few silver and bronze medals here and there.
