Mediacorpse also the same, these days keep on using Radio DJs, actors and actress to promote ads in air spaces and time slots for their radio stations.
It's obvious that these 2 monopolies are making losses year after year.

SPH has control over most of Singapore's most popular social media sites as well as mainstream media sources. They also have business interests in property. Retrenchment is good. Get rid of the deadweights and have talent renewal. If no retrenchment, I worry.

Advertisement revenue has decline a lot. So was circulation. The problems with SPH are:
1. used by pap as a propaganda tool
2. used by pap to reward its cronies (SR Nathan and now Lee Boon Yang). They were paid millions of $ a year for doing nothing
3. not many Singaporeans trust that SPH will report the truth on local issues
4. the emergence of internet
5. the growing prominence of social media
6. SPH was not able to react responsively to emerging business threats
The above problems have been simmering for many years
Yes, SPH has to be more proactive to survive. If SPH had not been a monopoly all these years, it wld have died long ago due to inefficiences
