Got back to Bangkok this morning from 2 days trip to Colombo. When walked out of Suvanabhumbi Airport Terminal to get my car was greeted with a pleasant welcome - the temperature outside was colder than inside the terminal. Took out my phone to check and was surprised to find that temperature was 20 degC. Looks like its gonna be like this till Jan.

Drove all the way home with windows down. Kind of funny to see everyone on the sidewalk wearing thick clothing. Even the dogs outside my community housing (they call village here) wear clothes.

Noon today will be driving to Pattaya's Sunset Park Resort & Spa with wife and dog for two nights and back to Bangkok on Monday. With temperature like this, should be very sabhai sabhai.

Cheers

Coldest temperature recorded in Bangkok is 9.9 degrees in 1955. In Singapore it is 19.9 degrees in 1934.

Watchman, this picture is really funny.

You seem to know quite a fair bit about Bangkok. Other than these sleazy but fun joints there's much much more Bangkok/Thailand offers compare to other countries. This is a big, beautiful and very livable country. My wife and I are glad we've moved here for good. Every weekend or long holiday is a new venture here.

But of course Thailand has much to offer than what I am appearing to post .
I am just stereotyping .

You're right Thailand is a nice place to retire . . . its also a nice place where your retire money can stretch a long way while maintaining a very quality life.

These places you mentioned are islands and may by okay for vacation but for living there could be boring after a while.

I was thinking an ideal way is to have a house in Chiangmai (nice weather most of the time and cleaner and can golf everyday and well connected within the country and also to Singapore) and then can travel to the islands or even mountains whenever you like. Chiangmai is also a little cheaper than Bangkok.

its nice ..where do you get those lighting ? by the way did you rent the house or buy ?

Thanks. I got the lights from a LED shop who also does advertising sign boards just 3km from my place. I got 36 tubes each 80cm long. The shop supply and install because lots of wiring required including 3 control boxes. Took 5 fellas 5 hours to install all these on my 7 trees.

I've been renting this place for 2 years now and I spent quite a bit to redo the entire garden and even some parts of the house with the agreement that I must leave all these here when I move. But its all worth. Also just signed with owner for another 2 years and 6 months while my own place is beginning to start work Q2 of next year. (of course must use company to buy la, foreigner can only buy condo, so legally own by company and lease to me for like 200 years or something). This is the way to overcome the laws here. Every foreigner does that.

Phuket, half-town half-beach atmosphere, best of both worlds.

Let me check for you the different types of long term visas available here and conditions. Obviously mine is work permit that requires to be renewed annually and had been doing this for the past 4 years. (they rarely give more than a year as what I heard cos the agencies that help foreigners get visa legally charges quite a bit and pay coffee money to immigration so this is a constant income for them but its worth and fair).

Yes I guess Phuket could also be a good choice and can go to Hat Yai for food that's very similar to Singapore hawker food. Come to think of it Hua Hin is very good too as it is just 1.5hrs to 2hrs drive from Bangkok.
