Spore FT beat China 3-1 to win world table tennis women's title

3 Cheers for GMS pro FT policy!

MOSCOW: Singapore's trio Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu and Sun Bei Bei rocked the sports world in Moscow when they beat reigning champions and world No 1 China 3-1 in the World Team Table Tennis Championships.

It was sweet revenge for the Singapore women's team, ranked No 2 in the world, after they lost in the 2008 final and the Olympic final to the Chinese.

China, powerhouses in the men's and women's game for so long, were left stunned by a confident display from the Singapore women.

Feng, Singapore's world No 2, was the star of the team, after she beat China's world No 4, Ding Ning, in the first singles, before coming back to the table to clinch the winning point 3-2 against women's No 1, 19-year-old Liu Shiwen.

Earlier, Wang stunned Liu in the second singles, while Sun fell to Guo Yan, setting up Feng's epic finale as the Singapore women became the 2010 world table tennis champions.

The power of Money.

If Zimbabwe pay them twice as much, they will be African without a blink of an eye.

I am not convince the fast food FT policy is the way to go for winning gold at international sports events. The very core spirit of grooming your own people against all odds to win is gone, the national pride is defaced and raped by by highest paid clowns.

To pay top $ for international coaches and sport sciences professional is one thing, to buy sportsman and woman us another.

Yes they work very hard, no one denies that. I respect them for the hard work and determination.
We should congratulate them for their personal achievement.

Our dissatisfaction should target towards the policy maker and their policy, the girls are just the by product of the freaky policies.

If they denounce the citizenship and go home to their home town, I will not feel a bit surprise, it is only human nature to go back to your family and country of birth and we should not say anything bad about them too as they came, delivered and got rewarded. It's just business.

You are absolutely right. At the initial stage, we need a few foreign players (and not the whole team!) that can take us to international competitions (and get young people interested in the sport) while we work on bringing up young local talents.

However, we are putting people who knows absolutely nothing about the sport to lead the team. They only know how to spend money to get instant results inorder to get their next promotion.

Japan and German teams have come a long way in Ping Pong. Japan has no foreign players and Germany only has 1 PRC player.

This is want I call the "Traitor Model"

China PRC team will see our All Star PRC team as traitors.

Our "Traitor Model" not only infect the sports scene, it is also found in all other policies, like housing, Foreign affairs, Judicial, Civil Service, it is very entrenched in our Society.

Who perfected this "Traitor Model" ? Well no other then someone who got first hand experience, our resident Traitor since WW2.

i see yr point.

sad that many others can't make that fair distinction like u have.

Nobody will know if they be citizens forever. Yr statement on human nature very true. witness the brazilian footballer returning home & returning his citizenship. But at least I can recall one Jing Jun Hong , prc paddler 4th in 2000 Olympics who married sporean hubby settled down here raising her kids as sporean & now asst coach in national women's team. assimilation is not impossible.

the sports ft & the workplace FT scheme is not without controversy.
We citizens don't want to feel 2nd class or be taken for a ride.

Question is: what price excellence? must be best in everything?
in economics terms, without FT we surely die or can we do without them ? srely we can live without them.

if they are properly assimilated, as a nation we are enriched & stronger.
if influx of FT players raise local standards then good, if squeeze out local chances, then bad....

in life no guarantees, it is a policy call - more than that policy merit depends on execution .... no easy answers.

Therefore, this FT policy must be exercised with caution & deliberation - NOT the way the new PAP lobos try to score points to Old Man by accelerating FT growth anyhow to get cheap easy growth & cheap easy titles (in sports) .... There must be wisdom in framing policies & balancing results with other intangibles that are important to citizen's well being. In this respect, the PAP has failed us on balance re: FT influx/
