With re-sale HDB 4 room hitting 675,000, time to sell and migrate?

Assuming you are near retirement age and have young school going children and you are not eligible for any of the usual criteria to immigrate. And, you do not want to invest in a business, just retires but at the same time provide the avenues for your children to escape from this bloody country. That is, you have a sum of money in excess, which you can use to assure the host you are not there to plunder their tax payer money.

Anybody have done that, can share your experience or any pointer would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting question. How about Malaysian 2nd home program? Think you need 500K RM to buy a house there, which more then covers what you need to go there.
http://www.mm2h.gov.my/

ELIGIBILITY

It is open to citizens of countries recognised by Malaysia, regardless of race, religion, gender or age. The programme allows applicants to bring with them their spouses, parents and children. Foreign spouses of Malaysians and expatriates who wish to retire in Malaysia after expiry of their Employment Passes are also eligible to apply to stay in Malaysia on this programme.

Applicants are allowed to bring their spouses, unmarried children below the age of 21 and parents above the age of 60 as dependants.

Your children can take care of themselves because there will be ample opportunities for them when they grow up. The world is their oyster.

As for you, what you need is the ability to plan to make your money last as long as possible in a country that provide a lower cost of living and have access to affordable healthcare. You may not be able to adapt to colder climate. Check out the neighbouring countries?

Absolutely good for the children, since the cost of living is spiraling out of control over here. You can't get any worse then this bloody place.

No problem with cold, frankly we have stayed in the far north for a couple of years when they are young.

Anyway, it is good for all Singaporean that think likewise and take advantage of the inflated housing price, cash out and move out. Let our new sillypore citizen enjoy the stay here.

This is a very interesting question. I don't know your circumstances enough to make any recommendation. From your initial post, I'm assuming you do not qualify for skilled migration visa to Australia, not sure about America though, maybe the "trolls" can enlightened you on that. You also mention you do not wish to participate in a business visa as well. Do you have relatives in say, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, US? Maybe a better choice is to get your children to migrate there first, using your relatives as a sponsor, then have them sponsor you over as they are the only "carer" for you. There are a couple of visa like this in Australia, but the processing is really slow and the criteria is not as flexible as the rest. If a "real" democracy is what you want and given the assumption I've made, this maybe your best option. Do speak to a migration agent about this, as I'm not fully aware of your situation or know of any other avenue.

Malaysia may not be as bad as it seem. Just don't get into the local politics down there and they welcome you with an open arm. It still has not gotten as bad as Thailand. You are "investing" in their country anyway. I once met an old couple from Holland that is staying in Malaysia under the 2nd home program. They are taking care of their grandkid and the kid is attending some international school. I asked them why they decided to move from Holland to "retire" in Malaysia. They said that Holland has a lot of social problem, drugs, violence etc. They want to raise their grandkids in a "safer" environment in Malaysia with the parents working back in Europe. There is another thread in SBF a while back that details about buying a property in Malaysia etc, you might want to take a look at that.

The question of democracy or not is pretty moot in my opinion, as long as its somewhere you can live happily and comfortably.

Yes, something to this effect, but not Malaysia or any Asian Valued country, somewhere with real democracy.

I am self-employed and do have a business or process of building up. Skill yes, but am in my 50s so this avenue looks daunting.

I like to paint the scenario where we can just immigrate base on your wealth, say S$1 million, I am sure a lot of Singapore in their 50s can take advantage of that and uproot with their children, since I presume with their fully paid up HDB and their excess in CPF would add up to this figure and allow them the avenue to ponder over migration.

Let's treat this as a generic question, not just for me.

Racist aside, I believe lots of Singapore would want to get away from the heat, culture and choose to live in another region with true democracy. Although the Dutch couple you sited wants the opposite, perhaps similar thinking.

Thank you.

You can buy a mansion with 4000 SQ FT and swimming pool here in America or you can settle or a middle to lower class property in Australia. Check out Canada or America for the best deals but if I were you I would stay away from Australia. Australia is a ripp-off

Maybe you can check with him on how to get to America. He is very keen to let people know that USA is cheap, but very very short on details on how to get there.

I am sure it's not simply, buy a property and get your green card. So, do you know what's the criteria to immigrate to US base on your wealth, or do they have this policy?

Awwww. Just because Australia is a freaking ripp-off with the most expensive houses in the world right now Joshie Boy must make you very jealous.

Jealous, huh?

Mate find a good migration agent in Singapore. They would know whats best based on your circumstances. Look at New-Zealand and Canada, from what I can remember, business migration to NZ is slightly cheaper compared to Australia. I know you mentioned you do not want to start a business here. But view it this way, buy off an existing business, news agency, petrol station, wait a few years till you are clear of the visa requirements and sell it off.

200K and you get a HB-5

What is HB-5?

145th General Assembly
House Bill # 5

Primary Sponsor: Schwartzkopf
Introduced on : 10/03/2009

Long Title: AN ACT TO AMEND TITLES 6, 9, 18, 19, 25 AND 29 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT, PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACTING, HOUSING, EQUAL ACCOMMODATIONS AND THE INSURANCE BUSINESS.

Synopsis: This Act adds the term “sexual orientation” to the already-existing list of prohibited practices of discrimination. As such, this Act would forbid discrimination against a person on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, employment, public works contracting, public accommodations, and insurance. In addition, this Act would establish that the Superior Court, in the first instance, would hear and adjudicate alleged criminal violations under the Act of equal accommodations, fair housing and employment discrimination.
Amendments: HB 5 - Passed

Redbull bullshit again ... tsk tsk tsk

That sounds like a good proposition. If we can buy an interim small Chinese takeaway food shop and if it does not burn a big hole if no business.

Just be very very careful with the trolls. Don't get angry with them, just ignore them. They usually sprout a lot of BS threads and post with a lot of anger for Australia. But never really provide any real information. I'm still puzzled why they keep doing this with multiple nicks. Don't they get tired of spreading FUD all the time ?
