Another thing difficult in Thailand language is Classifier Noun. For the ang mohs, is really tough for them because in European languages classifiers are absent or marginal.

Example

1. A Car 一辆车
2. Two Books 两本书
3. Three dogs 三只狗

So, for us who knows Chinese, the logic is simple.

But problem is, our Chinese Group of Classifiers are different from the Thai Group of Classifiers. So is not a literal translation.

I agree this is the norm but there are exceptions.
Just for discussion sake....let's say there is a non native chink professor of English studies who studied and lived in his adopted land since his uni days. And compare him to a born and bred illiterate yokel who can't read his mother tongue and can hardly speak it properly. In this instance the naturalized chink prof would trump the native.

Hate to butt in, but while it's generally true that native speakers have the upper hand when it comes to speaking and writing their own language, there are instances in which foreign learners come out better.

He then went on to become the greatest pre-war English-language novelist, despite English being his 3rd language (after Polish and French). Personally, English is not my mother tongue. I learned it after Cantonese and Mandarin. yup all because it isn't your mother tongue it doesn't mean you will be a poor speaker/writer of said language and also you don't actually need to attend formal schooling to master a new language.
