TJS Trojan Horse within the Opposition Camp

TJS did what he did during the Presidential Elections. Now all opposition parties are going to be tarred by the same brush. The allegation of bigotry and racism will loom large over all of the opposition camp. This will not just confined to dog-whistle politics this will be full blown.

As CPP said in another related thread, the new citizens will move to the PAP in strength. And their voting bloc is no longer insignificant.

Did anyone wonder why the bulk of his new team are from from PAP and PA background. Not a single one of the new chaps identified wrote or voiced an opinion contrary to the PAP's position.

This sort of pseudo opposition will set us back by more than a few years.

This guy single handedly handed Tony Tan the Presidential Elections and the Istana.

Me think TJS is not a mole. He is like a bull dog similar to Dr Chee during his early years in politic. In another word, TJS only care about his own agenda and he doesn't care much about being a spoiler. I prefer him to play only the bull dog role.

Yes, new citizens will have yet another reason to strengthen their support for PAP. Even though they are "technically" already first gen Singaporeans, the cultural and family root (and perhaps true inner loyalty) still lies with the motherland and no one in his right mind will think of coming within 1000 yards of a party that says "Singaporeans First".

What WP has to do is just to maintain its long-standing policy of not being part of any notion of opposition unity.

The liberals on my facebook page will be screaming xenophobia, racism, bigotry, right-ring nationalism and Gilbert Goh shortly.

If the party becomes intertwined with Gilbert Goh, Ngee Ann City/PIDC, and the phrase "Singapore for Singaporeans" it will be divisive.

New political party pledges to put "Singaporeans at the heart of the nation"

SINGAPORE — Mr Tan Jee Say, former presidential candidate, has announced the formation of a new political party, Singaporeans First, which pledges to put "Singaporeans at the heart of the nation".

At a press conference today (May 25), Mr Tan announced the formation of the party and unveiled his founding man team, which include ex-grassroot leaders, architects and former members of the Young PAP.

Of his team, eight have formerly worked in government agencies, seven are scholarship holders, and three are former PAP activists, Mr Tan said.

Mr Tan said that his party is keen to form a coalition party with other opposition parties for the next General Election.
The coalition plan will not dilute the impact of the opposition vote, he said, as there are still plenty of seats and the Workers' Party (WP), which currently holds seven contested seats, will not compete in every constituency. It depends on how we work together, he said.

"We have enough people to contest in minimally two GRCs (group representation constituencies), maybe even three or four," he said, adding that he expects more people to join his party.

Party member Dr Ang Yong Guan - formerly of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) - said that the party's logo stands for thinking with the heart, and not just the brain, which he said the PAP has been doing.

In terms of policy, the party will focus on a strong safety net and having a fair society, Mr Tan said.

One of the party's goals is to remove the Goods and Services Tax and increase social spending, a proposal which Mr Tan said could be funded through the budget surpluses.

The party will also advocate for unemployment insurance and benefits to cover at least six months, he said.

He also said that the bus contracting policies announced this week is a public admission of failure, and accused the Government of taking ideas from the opposition, as WP and SDP have previously advocated for the nationalisation of assets.

Mr Tan said that Singaporeans First aims to be different from other political parties by focusing on specifics, such as the economy. "We also have the advantage of someone like me who knows a lot more about the economy," he said.

Mr Tan said that the new party had not been registered yet, and holding the press conference first was to gesture for supporters who had asked if they were ready for the next General Election.

Papers will be submitted to the Registry of Societies after the press conference, he said, adding that he expects approval to be given within two months, after which they will begin walkabouts.

The 11 founding members of the party are:

  1. Dr Ang Yong Guan, psychiatrist and ex-grassroots leader
  2. Michael Chia, retired engineer and volunteer social worker
  3. Fahmi Rais, communications professional, ex-Young PAP and Legislative Assistant
  4. Fatimah Akthar, architect
  5. Dr David Foo Ming Jin, chemist, logistics professional and ex-Young PAP
  6. Jamie Lee Swee Yan, certified SAP IT professional and project manager
  7. Winston Lim, architect and town planner
  8. Dr Loke Pak Hoe, Director of 3 multinational educational companies
  9. Tan Jee Say, financial adviser, ex-civil servant, banker and fund manager
  10. David Tan LK, educationist and ex-grassroots leader
  11. Tan Peng Ann, social entrepreneur, retired SAF officer and ex-PAP grassroots leader

The naming of the Party is a masterstroke. If using GMS will be like wearing a transparent trousers, this naming of the Party is akin to wearing a trousers with your dick hanging out.

That is plausible but I more convinced now than before that I either he is being manipulated or that he knows exactly what he is doing Mind you he was PPS to a PM.

Here are some of the factors that I considered

1) Despite the onerous requirements that is required of a PE candidate, he was cleared which even TKL commented about and others were clearly puzzled. Go thru his history after he left the civil service. The last British company in the financial sector was insolvent. And he never held a full time job after that.

2) He agreed to be part of TKL team and sat thru the strategy session and then went on run for PE. Sneaky and downright dishonest. I suspect that his political master worked out that Tan Cheng Bock was viable and growing threat and to dilute his votes by playing in the same field. And we all know the outcome.

3) Not one of those associated with him in the past in the opposition except for Dr Ang is with him. No Jeanette, Nicole, etc

4) Note that nearly all of them are with the PAP or PA. Highly suspicious. Why did anyone associated with the opposition did not join him. Do they know something that we do not.

5) In this day and age, you cannot put forward a Harbans Singh standard to spoil the opposition. That guy must be be suave, rely on some past credentials and appear qualified.

6) The worst is the platform that they are running on. It is a red rag to a bull. We are asking for trouble. The ignorant and desperate Singaporeans will desert credible opposition parties and flock to him. He has taken over Gilbert Goh's mantle.

Me think TJS is not a mole. He is like a bull dog similar to Dr Chee during his early years in politic. In another word, TJS only care about his own agenda and he doesn't care much about being a spoiler. I prefer him to play only the bull dog role.

It will be great if they can 'focus fire' on one GRC and avoid a 3-corner fight.

I don't think even vote dilution will save the PAP's ass now.

Yes, this guy is going to takeover the voters that are associated with Gilbert, Alex Tan and worst still those are impacted by FT policies and who have traditionally supported WP and SDP. He is also going to takeover over the dissenting Malay voters who have gone over to the opposition parties as they felt that AMP is a PAP captive and the issue with FT treatment of our native brethren.

The liberals on my facebook page will be screaming xenophobia, racism, bigotry, right-ring nationalism and Gilbert Goh shortly.

I can guarantee you that he is going for East Coast GRC. Holland-BT is not where the appeal is. East Coast will therefore remain in PAP hands. The indians will enbloc vote for PAP, The locals and Malays will be split between WP and his Ice Cream party.

Everything will be crystal clear just before GE.

This new party is a limping Trojan Horse, if ever there is one. It will not pull in the massive support like the WP from sinkies. Too many founding ex-pappies' members, already indoctrinated with pappies' influence. Same sheath, different design only.

WP will be main oppo party and this new party will end up like Reform Party, here and there but really getting nowhere.

You are spot on! Agreed with you on this, TJS is an opportunist and he is well supported.
