This has nothing to do with immaturity. It is culture. Asian culture expects the young to respect the elders and guests to respect the host. Even if the meal provided by a host is bad, a Japanese's guest will never tell the host his true opinion. Instead, he will give compliment. It is a form of courtesy that Asian culture expects. Call it hypocrite .... or what you like, it is not immaturity of the people.

Every society has its own culture. As a guest in a foreign land, it is his responsibility to understand the "don'ts" of the land and not get himself in trouble. I am sure he is fully aware of this aspect of Asian culture. Therefore, by putting what he had written in FB ( which only idiots think that it is in the private domain where so many "friends" have access to,) it is a clear indication that he despises the people here. It is this indirect display of colonial superiority, treating others as dirts that causes the uproar and not the immaturity of the people over being called poor or smelly.

A mature person will analyse and understand the root cause of a problem and not happily grabbing what appears on the surface and jump to conclusion.

Anton Casey and employer Crossinvest Asia have 'parted ways'

A day after Mr Anton Casey left Singapore for Perth with his family, his company, Crossinvest Asia has announced that the senior wealth manager is no longer its employee.

In a statement on its Facebook page late Friday night, it said it is deeply concerned that Mr Casey's recent remarks on social media have caused great distress among Singaporeans. "Those comments go against our core corporate and family values that are based on trust, mutual understanding and are respectful of diversity," said the statement.

It said Crossinvest Asia is a family business and Mr Casey's comments "do not represent the culture that we have built over many years". "Accordingly, Crossinvest Asia and Mr Casey have parted ways with immediate effect," it added.

Mr Casey, 39, a British married to former Miss Singapore Bernice Wong, caused an uproar when his Facebook post showing him calling public transport commuters "poor people", and another one claiming he needed to "wash the stench of public transport off me" went viral.

The Straits Times reported today that he and his family left Singapore for Perth on Friday. Mr Casey said it was because of "threats made towards my family". In an email response to The Straits Times, he apologised to the people of Singapore again and offered to do community work "to make amends for my mistakes".

I wish to think that human beings and wild animals can be differentiated. And it looks like they can. In this case here, the humans have shown to be more stupid. The lions and hyenas are competitiors for the same food resource and will eliminate their competitors whenever they can whereas the humans, instead of cooperating with one another to forward themselves, spend their time barking up the wrong tree. When I was a school kid, I did subscribe to such silly teaching that an eye for an eye is bad because the world will go blind. After all these years, I will be a fool, if I do not realise that it is just a fantasy. In the real world there are bullies, tyrants, dictators and all kinds of people who are out to take advantage. If we allow them to continue with their misdeeds, there will be no end to injustice. Saddam Hussein will still be around and this land will still be under Japanese occupation if an eye for an eye is strictly prohibited.

Yes, the world as we are told is full of crap. And there is nothing we can do to influence the outcome of the big picture, but where we can, we should try to what is right in our conscience. That is being human. Although I do not believe in religion (as historical events), but the moral lessons are good for us to inculcate and teach the next generation. I believe that in the long term, co-operation will benefit us more than competition.
