It's not that simple, the world is now a smaller place & we have global economies which means people travel a lot more & have more business dealings outside of their country of birth. Having a internationally recognised qualification or a professional vocation use to guanrantee an overseas work posting or the ability to look for work or set up business outside of Singapore but this is not true anymore, these days you also need long term visas or PR to get you that job or business outside of Singapore, just like the FTs & PRs coming into Singapore, it's a 2 way traffic, the tide flows in & flows out, the world is changing & Singapore needs to change with it

great analysis...the pap cant be myopic and views dual citizenship as betrayal

But if Daphne's citizenship is revoke, much ill will would have been generated. The pap will get away with Daphne's anti pap vote. But it will provoke much anger and may arouse many of her family and friends to vote against the pap. so it's not a straight forward case

Sorry but i was referring to "They" as in those who are forced to give up Singaporean citizenship if gahmen tightens the law & enforces No Dual citizenship, Daphne & countless more will be angry, especially those who have business dealings & requires citizenship of another country to conduct business. As they say.. Money talks Bullshit walks! I think if forced to, people will sell up in Singapore & take their wealth out!

good point you raised for us to ponder.

for those who are truly global, SG is not attractive. SG can only attract the low level third world migrants. and this is bad for SG in the future.

This migrant trend iof allowed to continue will level SG society down

Agree.. There is very little in SG to hold back Singaporeans. If pushed to make a choice by the pap, many singaporeans will give up their SG citizenship

Singaporeans are by far & large.. from migrant family stock, we're all sons & daughters of immigrants here, we "chase work & money" wherever it leads us, there's no change in this respect the way i see it from 100 years ago or today, especially when there isn't a coherent Singapore identity & Culture to hold us back!

good point!

the failure of the SG system is that we chase after materialism and there are no roots , culture nor values to anchor us to SG

I agree with you.

But a law should not contradict the Constitution. Various regulations have been formulated at many Ministries which spell out the process and procedures to take when making a decision. But some of these well intended regulations were not tightly thought through and do contradict higher level orders.

What did the Constitution says that makes citizenship indefeasible? If it were there it would be a stupid thing to have it there in the first place.

I know Mark and May...a loving couple. Mark trusted his colleague and their good friend Ng. He asked Ng to help take care of May while he was on an overseas course. One thing led to another and Mark lost May

But years later after 3 children, May lost Ng to another woman!

There is also dual threads within this thread -
1. ICA issues
2. Old Singaspore

We live in a globalised world lah.... have to accept changes to the norms we used to know..... its not like this video with Singapore still having rickshaw pullers......

Note the Padang, St Andrews Cathedral and the Singapore River....

Thats the excuse they always give.....some of the excuses are pretty lame and make them look puny and uneducated

indeed!!

1. SG needs to increase GST to help the poor.
2. 72 year old man chooses to work as cleaner because he doesnt want to be bored at home
3. "white horse" classification in NS so that they dont receive preferential treatment
4. Tony Tan has no hand in his son's 12 year NS deferment and subsequent research posting in NS although he was Defence Minister
5. LKY and LHL accept preferential discount for their Nassim Jade condo because he can get an extra egg at the char kway teow stall
6. cheap foreigners are required to create jbs for Singaporeans

the pap thinks singaporeans are fools
