We could, as some people do, insist that this is all to the good. That youths should be in school or in training rather than the labour force. And thus if a high minimum wage forces them out of work and back into school this is a good thing. And I wouldn’t particularly argue against that notion. But I would point out that it this is explicitly, not just implicitly, accepting the point that a minimum wage can and will have significant unemployment effects.

Looking at this... it is similar to our low wage workers in Singapore. Would they be forced out of job with a minimum wage because they are low skilled or is it better for us to have a progressive wage that allows the low wage workers to progress with more pay with skills upgrades?

Why would the oppies keep insisting on minimum wage when our low skilled workers will be forced out of job if they are not productive enough for that minimum wage?

It seems like the NTUC has employed a lot of IBs in recent times. ;)

But your master have minimum wage.....why shouldn't the general workers have theirs...their minimum wage is to put three square meals on the table, a roof over their heads, pay for their transportation costs & enough for medical emergency plus the most important part, is to afford an expensive government. With no minimum wage...they must migrate to Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Indonesia...& come back here as workers or maids...

obviously minimum wage has it downsides like high unemployment and the poor stuck at the bottom with stagnant pay. You want it?

Progressive wage that the government is mandating for low wage workers would not. It will allow them to move up the career ladder with better pay with a 'minimum sum' in mind. So which is better?

In Singapore, there's no minimum wage, but there's MINIMAL wage.

Do you know a Poly grad earns less than $2k? Maybe $1.8k. With this type of salary, can afford $500k flat? Fat hope la!

The high cost of living in Stinkapore where stinkaporeans are being raped and screwed by PAP will kill Stinkaporeans
But do the fucking PAP care?

All they care about is how they laugh all the way to their fucking banks

HANG THOSE PAP BASTARDS FROM PIANO WIRES WITH THEIR FUCKING KANGAROOS AND RUNNING DOGS
