SINGAPORE: Residents in Woodlands were greeted with an unusual sight on Thursday afternoon. In full view in the middle of an open field was a military helicopter.
The RSAF Apache helicopter, which was on a routine maintenance flight, had made an emergency landing near Woodlands Drive 64 after encountering engine problems.
Though there was no damage to civilian property, the aircraft had landed relatively near a housing estate.
And the field where the helicopter landed is a popular spot for leisure activities for residents from the nearby housing estate.
"I was playing soccer with my friends, then I saw the helicopter was like going to drop, and then it fell," said a boy.
The helicopter's emergency landing site is also near Greenwood Primary School, raising concerns among parents.
"When I heard that a helicopter landed here, we were worried, wondering 'will it explode?'....that kind of thing that might affect the school and the students here," said a parent.
"It's very near the school....especially along this area, you can see a lot of people jogging in the evening.....especially for the school, it's a concern. As you can see, students are walking around here," said a second parent.
"This incident is a concern for the school....a lot of children are here, so it's quite dangerous," said a third.
As a precautionary measure, MINDEF says the RSAF will temporarily suspend all training for its Apache fleet.
Training for naval helicopters with similar engines as the Apache helicopter will also be on hold.
