People in public office will make statements and comments to appease the public for that "feel good" factor. It is what they are paid to do. But the listeners (in this case, Singaporeans) have to keep in mind the "limitations" faced. Singapore is a small little dot in the world, even in a smaller zone, like South-East Asia, she is still a little kampong. Constraints will be - land, population, resources, and culture. Yes, I mentioned culture because what is a big deal to Singaporeans, does not even cross the mind of people the rest of the world. Example - some local celebrities become household names just by speaking Singlish, now try this anywhere outside of this island, maybe you can get an audience in Brunei, or maybe Philippines even, but that where it ends. So, do not get all upbeat and gung-ho about being "creative" and think that the world will look to something from Singapore to fill their wants. I am not being against the spirit of creativity and entrpreneurship here, just saying to be realistic.
Cheers!
