According to a news report from Wanbao, Gabriel Yam, whose father is the famous GE 2011 Returning Officer Yam Ah Mee, was allegedly charged for drunk driving in Arizona, United States.
He was allegedly caught for drunk driving sometime in Mar/Apr time-frame while driving a sports car to a night club.
The news was reported by Wanbao on 15 May, right after an elite PRC expatriate, Ma Chi, crashed his million dollar Ferrari into a taxi on 12 May, killing himself and 2 others. In Gabriel Yam’s case, no one was hurt, apparently.
When a Wanbao reporter tried calling Yam Ah Mee to enquire about his son, Yam told the reporter, “Sorry, the information is still unclear. I am still checking. Sorry, I’m still at a meeting.”
Gabriel Yam is the eldest son of Yam Ah Mee who currently is the Chief Executive Director of the People’s Association. He shot to fame after Singaporeans took to his monotone voice and expressionless demeanor, as the Returning Officer for GE 2011.
During the RSAF’s 40th Anniversary celebration in 2008, the father and son, both RSAF’s airmen, sent their well wishes to the RSAF. It was published on the special publication to commemorate RSAF’s 40th Anniversary:
His father, Yam Ah Mee was an SAF scholar, served in the RSAF, rising to be the Chief of Staff (Air Staff) from 1995 to 1997. He retired from the SAF as a Brigadier-General before entering the Civil Service.

We are privileged to be part of the Air Force family!”
