I believe most of these are volunteers without being official members. If you want to stand for election, just volunteer first.

A guy like Chan Chun Sing would be too prominent a guy to do intensive voluntary work, though. Even walkaround or attending funerals, people will notice. Not worth risking it unless it is fairly close to election time.

This restriction of civil servants can really be a problem to tap new candidates from the civil service. Last time you just parachute new candidates in, now not so easy.

Kuku, if what the IM states is so clear and does not differentiate members and volunteers then a lot of people are committing daylight robbery? For example, I know of people volunteering at MPS. When you ask them are they party members, they just say they are volunteers, nothing to do with the party. But they are helping the MP like his assistants. Anyway the line between government grassroots organisations and party vehicles is very blur.

PT has been a member of SDP for some time already so obviously he is not a civil servant...it is amazing how u can stretched a simple thing to try to cover your mistake.
Secondly NUH and SGH are restructured under NUHS and Singhealth respectively and doctors in both hospitals are free to join any political party.
