It's not my job to make a difference. I'm in the party because I agree with them. Make a difference for what? Disagree with myself agreeing with them?

Since you've openly declared WP affiliation for the record I think its time to make certain matters clear.

Firstly as a party member I'm sure you are aware the party has changed. You are what I term a coffeeshop uncle. A person with a unique perspective of SG and the world, who has been to places and done many things. A story teller, a bullshitter, a smooth talker, a friend to all, someone anyone can have coffee with and find their perspective changed.

That's why you were valued in WP. You make and keep friends very easily and offer lively dinner conversations that generate heated discussion even if those were trivial and degenerated into meaningless bickering.

What the party needs moving forward are 3 groups of people:

(a) culture carriers -- those who can embody the spirit of the party and move ahead keeping it intact

(b) winners' mindset -- keep and build upon past electoral gains esp Aljunied

(c) capacity builders -- people working behind the scenes quietly to build membership and talent scout

You do realize the role of coffeshop uncle doesn't fit into these 3 categories. that's why you feel your relevancy is being challenged and you need this forum to express this dilemna. Now my question to you is do you want to continue to be as your are and become further irrelevant over time or do you want to change with the times?

GMS introduced me to LTK almost ten years ago. Halfway through, GMS resigned. I felt LTK worth helping and remained.

Lets put him down as a free spirit. He blows where the wind blows. When GMS left WP, Ramseth stated that he was allowing his WP membership to lapse. He then followed GMS, NSP and Tan Kin Lian. I think he realised that it was a different lot of people and they did not readily accept him. It was just GMS and TKL but not their party associates or associates.

I think he got the message and went back to WP where he was more comfortable.. WP members tend to be closer and they can read LTK well. The leadership is well established. So there is less intrigue and people are less skeptical or jumpy of people joining the party. In a GE any form of help is always welcomed and he is well versed in nomination and campaign work and thus an asset.

He also needs to fulfill his day job and WP is back on the ascendency.

You don't understand. Ramseth has been in this trade for a long time. That's how he makes a living. Problem arises when you have a coffeeshop uncle that wants to remain in the 1980s. Sure he offers manpower but he must also be managed. And the more he remains out of sync, the more he must be managed. I'm talking basic economics here. Output versus input.

You don't need to jibe. I cannot get offended. You have a better grasp of politics than most here but you are constantly bogged down by ego and misplaced loyalty.

That Machiavellian approach may sound offensive, but admit it even you use it. Problem is you take cheap potshots at people who realize that only with power can come morality and progress. I don't like your cheap hypocrisy when behind the scenes you are strategizing in much the same manner.

I personally know the hell lot of work you put in at M-K and frankly I do feel sorry that NSP could not stand there. But in politics, you don't give chance just because the other side has played a beautiful recital. To play the game you must be ruthless about capacity building and expansion. That is the best way to serve the people of SG.

The worst way to play the game is to be friendly, accommodating, cooperative, always giving in to every tom dick and harry and in the end every tiny snob and critter is fighting over the same pie and nothing gets done. that's the way i see it. There is only one way to progress, and that is by winning. You win first, then we talk.
