A woman known in media reports as Liu Jia allegedly posed as a serious girlfriend to at least 36 different men in Shenzhen. She met them through dating apps, spoke about marriage and a future together, then convinced each man to buy an apartment for her.
The homes were mainly in Huizhou, a nearby city where property was cheaper. She refused to put her name on the deeds, saying it would be added after marriage. Once the mortgages were signed and payments started, she cut contact and disappeared.
The men later discovered they had all been dating the same woman and were left alone with long-term home loans for apartments they never intended to buy.
A reminder that emotional manipulation can be just as damaging as financial fraud and that rushing major life decisions under pressure is a serious risk.
