SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly robbing a 73-year-old woman at knife point.
In a statement on Monday, police said the incident happened on Sunday at about 4.30pm.
They said the suspect had followed the victim into a lift at the ground floor of a block at Bukit Panjang Ring Road.
As the lift ascended, the suspect flashed a pair of scissors and demanded that the victim hand over the gold necklace that she was wearing.
When the victim refused, the suspect snatched the gold necklace and fled when the lift door opened.
The victim shouted for help and her cries attracted the attention of her son who was visiting a friend at the floor. The victim's son chased after the suspect and detained her at the staircase landing of the block.
Police were alerted, and arrested the suspect at the scene. The victim's gold necklace and a pair of scissors were recovered.
Police said the suspect will be charged in court on Tuesday. - CNA/nd
