Tengku Rahman was a Malay man ahead of his times.. He was one of earlier Malay politicians who championed for a Malaysia for all races.. He was not like the fanatical kris wielding UMNO clowns that Malaysia have now..

Maybe his upbringing and his way of life made him to be a PM well loved by all races.. He had many friends from all races.. He was not really a pious Muslim.. He drank whiskey, gambled on horses, loves pretty women.. In fact he was still drinking whisky when he was in his 80s.. A PAS member paid a visit to his home and was shocked to see the old boy having a glass of Whisky..

No wonder he maintained his sanity. How could anyone keep his sanity if he has no indulgence of any sort?

Back in 63 or 64, LKY and GKS went to KL to have a meeting with the Federal Govt.. Meeting with Tunku Rahman and other top Federal Ministers was supposed to be few hours long.. But it was cut short to just 1 hour by the Tengku..

During that meeting Tunku was drinking Hennessy but LKY drank only beer.. After the meeting, Tunku and Tan Siew Sin booked a few call girls and left together with the girls.. But LKY being devoted to Gecko refused any ladies and instead he had GKS for company for the remainder of the night..

The Tunku being a gentleman kept a long silence over this matter.. Close friends of the Tunku told of how he refused to discuss the May 13th riot as he was still hurting from the tragic events.. He once told a reporter that he regarded the Malays and the Chinese as his beloved citizens and it pained him when the reporter asked him about the events leading to the May 13th riot..
