No comments on something read by millions of people on extremely controversial comments that might ruin the image of Singapore BUT

Persecute to death random passages of a half-baked book written by a nobody who would not have been read by more than a handful of people because those passages damage our esteemed judiciary?

The PAP government is great in one thing: misplacing priorities. This can be seen across all social, economic and political issues.

Yes, misplaced priorities...this is typical of the PAP..

Look at how the SPF sent out so many Police Officers to ring CSJ and CSC just to prevent them from walking to parliament House..but didnt do anything despite the high crime rates and killings at downtown east.

Cant the police set up a police Post at high risk areas to deter crime? CSJ and CSC are not criminals

You are forgetting the context for why they began the prosecution in the first place.

This and the arrest of the young blogger during YOG was an attempt by a then acting Minister to try and secure the position of Minister of Home Affairs.

To show that he would make a "tough" MHA Minister, he therefore directed MDA to take "tough" action.

The action against the young blogger backfired badly in his face and scuttled whatever little chance he had of getting the position. The action against Alan Shadrake has morphed into something beyond his wildest nightmare.

So much so he now keeps very quiet in hope that no one knows or remembers why they got into the Alan Shadrake mess in the first place.

I do remember that the few passages used by judicial to prosecute Shadrake is taken out of context. What double standard!

It is not about the truth.. It is about them trying to secure their seat in the parliament.

you have doubts that WikiLeaks is the truth?

Not until about 5 mins ago. I now have doubts that the statement even existed.

But in a statement yesterday, Mr Anwar's lawyers claimed that in their own checks, no such references were made by WikiLeaks, which released the cables exclusively to Australia's Fairfax Media group. Mr Sankara Nair said he had also contacted the Singapore High Commission to ascertain if Mr Lee and Singapore officials had indeed made the statements.

Quote from Article in this thread

And I can't find the statements on the Wikileaks website either

Apparently these statements were release to Australian Fairfax media group and not via their site so only they know whether it's real or not

no no...they dare not sue wikileaks...

to begin with, these conversations are made under assumption of top secret / confidentiality and was leaked apparently from US side...now, the government sue who? Sue US Foreign Department for having lax security checks?

Its just like, I left a folder containing top secret information of my company in a cafe and you picked it up...would you know its top secret? Even if you do, its of no concern to you...you release it...and will my company sue you? No...its not possible....

Further more, if the government sues..they risk opening a can of worms, revealing more secrets that they could afford...haha...

its a catch-22 situation for them...the only way is to stem this leak from US side...and WTF is the US side doing? Apparently there is mole there who is releasing all these info, nab the guy and trial him for treason.

Its is the US mess to clean up. No government dare make a move because they still dont know what juicy tidbits wikileaks still have. Once everything is out, then they can take action!

I agree 100% with the OP. I have 2 bicycles stolen but no action taken so far either to nab or increase neighbourhood patrols, In fact, I noticed there has been a large increase in petty crimes and most go unreported. Maybe citizens realised there is no point in pursuing their case as the SPF think it is "small matter."

Another point to make, I noticed there are hundreds of bicycles parked indiscriminately everywhere in North Point and MRT Station. Yet they only provide a shelter for maybe 50 bicycles. The poor and marginalised have to bear with their possessions in the sun and rain and early scrapping due to rust and violet rays. In this respect, I believe the authorities does not care too much about the ordinary citizens. They will, if they can milk the citizens for money like carparks and ERPs.

you have doubts that WikiLeaks is the truth?

My doubt deepens as I look further into this

Found some interesting statements on this issue

But in a statement yesterday, Mr Anwar's lawyers claimed that in their own checks, no such references were made by WikiLeaks, which released the cables exclusively to Australia's Fairfax Media group. Mr Sankara Nair said he had also contacted the Singapore High Commission to ascertain if Mr Lee and Singapore officials had indeed made the statements.

"I have consulted my colleague Karpal Singh with regards to this matter. For
one thing, we feel that it is actually subjudice to carry these stories as
it could affect the integrity of the trial. If you look at it properly, the
story was published via a third party. In law, this is hearsay until it is
factually proven otherwise," the lawyer told The Malaysian Insider.

http://lite.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/anwars-lawyer-say-

"With WikiLeaks' revelation, it looks like Singapore is undermining its
relationship with Malaysia. Whether or not the leaks are entirely accurate,
what remains clear is that Singapore's relationship with Malaysia remains
dubious, to say the least.

Doesn't anyone else find it strange that something like this was not released on Wikileaks official website but was instead release "exclusively" to an Australian media group and not a group from the SEA region. Dubious source + Dubious Articles = Major political crisis.

3 cheers for the freedom to Bullshit

The reason I believed it initially was because I thought the statements were released on the Wikileaks site which I still can't be sure of 100% but believe they usually have some level of credibility. However with regards to the latest episode involving SG it seems that even linking those statements back to Wikileaks is in doubt
