[TD="class: msgtxt"][h=2]Wife of Defence Minister is new SingHealth CEO[/h]Posted by theonlinecitizen on December 10, 2011 45 Comments 10 ~by: Sonia Suka~
Professor Ivy Ng who currently heads KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, is all set to take over SingHealth with effect from 22 Jan 2012. With her new appointment, Prof Ng would not just manage a single hospital but:
  1. Hospitals: Singapore General Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital
  2. National Specialty Centres: National Cancer Centre Singapore, National Dental Centre of Singapore, National Heart Centre Singapore, National Neuroscience Institute and Singapore National Eye Centre
  3. Polyclinics: Bedok, Bukit Merah, Geylang, Marine Parade, Outram, Pasir Ris, Queenstown, Sengkang and Tampines

But what has been omitted about Prof Ng’s appointment, and ought to have been announced for the sake of transparency, is the fact that Prof Ivy Ng is the wife of Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen (see HERE ).
Other questions also arise with the appointment of Prof Ivy Ng to head the largest public healthcare organisation SingHealth; questions like ‘is there a conflict of interest with her appointment?’ and ’How is the Minister of Health going to discharge his duty without fear or favour if issues arise which involves the wife of a fellow cabinet member?’
Of course the appointment of a cabinet minister’s wife to key-positions is not new in Singapore. Ms Ho Ching, the wife of then-Finance Minister (now Prime Minster) Lee Hsien Loong was appointed to be the executive director of Temasek Holdings Ltd, a state owned investment corporation in 2002.
Speaking about her appointment to Business Week in May of that year, then-Prime Minster Goh Chok Tong said, “It is awkward. We know that. There is some conflict of interest, but you know, we work for the larger good”. (see HERE )
Perhaps full disclosure about Prof Ng’s relationship to a cabinet minister was not made to avoid awkward scrutiny by the general public. It seems that the government will not recant its paternalistic belief that it knows best and works for the greater good of Singapore anytime soon.

She was the CEO of KK Hospital when the hospital made the big blunder. She went into hiding then, and let the Health minister make the apology. No respect for her! She is the CEO of the hospital, she should make the apology, and not choose to go into hiding.

And now she is appointed as Singhealth CEO. I don't think it is right.
