A JEALOUS husband has launched a shocking attack on his wife, gouging out her eye with his bare hands after he found her with a new boyfriend.

The 39-year-old woman from southern China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region had already left her husband following months of beatings and abuse.

According to a report in Want China Times, the woman, whose surname was given as Li, was stripped naked and beaten when she refused to pay her husband’s family debt.

When she tried to leave him the husband, whose surname was given as Long, hid her papers and threatened to harm her family. He then coerced her into marrying him.

Ms Li eventually fled to her home city of Yulin where she started a relationship with a new man.

Then on December 13 Mr Long appeared at her new home and attacked her boyfriend. When his ex intervened he began beating her, eventually gouging out her left eye with his bare hand.

Following the attack he called police to confess his crime. He was arrested and taken into custody.

The paper said Ms Li was taken to hospital but that doctors were unable to reattach the eye.
