[h=2]Why Tony Tan must never become the next President[/h]

My fellow Singaporeans and NS mates. Much as they would like to, the presidential selection committee will not dare to disqualify all the contenders except Tony Tan.
In which case, even if the dice is loaded in favor of Tony, we must all ensure that he gets the minimum of votes. Vote for anybody else except Tony.
Let him be a president elected by a minority of voters. Let us give a message to the PAP and their anointed candidate that they cannot ride roughshod over Singaporeans any more.
The PAP only understands this kind of language. They must really believe that Singaporeans are truly daft. Kee chieu if any one believes that Tony was not persuaded or induced to run for the presidency?
The infantile move by NTUC not to come out in favor of Tony is absolute wayang. They know that the moment they express support for Thorny, it is the kiss of death. The anti PAP vote will all go against him.
Let me say why Tony should not be president:
a. He is too close to the PAP. When it comes to choosing between the interests of Singapore and Singaporeans against those of the PAP, he will invariably choose the latter. Why do we need to give more power to the PAP? They have all by six seats in the Parliament. History has shown time and time again that the PAP cannot handle power, especially unbridled and absolute power.
b. He is cold, gawky and emotionless. He isn’t charismatic and possesses absolutely no leadership skills.
c. He has always been rich and can never sympathize with the poor, the disadvantaged and the handicapped.
d. He cannot speak off the cuff. He is measured with his words and never comes on as a convincing person. He always read from a prepared speech, even if it is few words. What does that say about him? No emotion, pure head and no heart.
e. Some people say that he looks distinguished. So does my dog. Does that mean you should elect my dog as president? So what if you have a head of white hair? Does that mean we should vote Santa Claus as president?
We want a President with heart. Who can protect the interests of Singaporeans, not the interests of the PAP. We want a president who can intercede on behalf of Singaporeans when we have a political party like the PAP who is not acting in the interests of Singaporeans. Ask yourself, why is the PAP peeing in their pants at the prospect of a not so compliant president?
Lee Kuan Yew instituted the elected presidency to prevent a rogue government from gaining power. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that the PAP could be that rogue government. They now talk about the limited powers of the elected president. Do you think for a moment that they would believe in limiting the elected president’s powers if they lose the 2016 general election?
The evolution of the elected presidency as a counter balance to the PAP is a result of the system of GRC and the gerrymandering of the electoral constituencies. Even if the PAP had only 40% of the votes, they will still win the majority of seats.
This presidential election is the only opportunity that remains for Singaporeans to deliver a message to the PAP that they have to work harder, faster and better (sounds familiar, doesn’t it) to regain the trust of Singaporeans. Otherwise it will be another five years before they come humbled to seek our votes again. By that time it will be too late.
The majority in the electorate will be made up of instant citizens. More draconian laws will be made to stifle Singaporeans. All our foreign reserves would have been gambled away in high risk investments. The Lee dynasty will have extended its tentacles into every facet, nook and corner of Singapore.
Even for those who voted for the PAP in the last general election, a vote against the PAP appointed candidate will not topple the government. The PAP will still be in charge if your fear is about the a change in government. We need to keep the PAP on their toes and having Tony as president will not achieve that.
