The increased number of English-speaking FTs notwithstanding, the truth is that Shitty Times and its sister publications have been facing declining readership. The limited free offer of iPad page views is to help to arrest the drop of readership. A large part of the decline may be attributed to the fact that no one really wants to fork out good money to read press releases from the PAP. Its credibility, like that of the PAP's (as confirmed by the LKY School recently) has dropped significantly.

In the "interview" with Han Fook Kwang, the Editor made the Freudian slips that SPH is aware of this loss in credibility.
He tried to slip in that the ST is a credible newspaper here and there, at the cost of digressing from the question.
A really pretty girl does not need to re-assure herself nor anyone else that she is pretty.

1) WHY IS ST LAUNCHING AN iPAD APP?
We are Singapore's best-read newspaper because readers know we are a quality paper ands we're credible.

2) WHAT DO YOU THINK OF NAYSAYERS PROCLAIMING THAT NEWSPAPERS ARE DYING AND HOW WILL THE ST'S DIGITAL STRATEGY COUNTER THIS?
...for the ST, our most important assets are our credibility and our ability to produce quality content...and the readers' expectations of what is credible....

In the meantime, each time Tony Tan is given the front page or some inside page treatment in the run-up to the EP elections, they are timely reminders why I should not be voting for him.

Don't you have to to pay $ to access their on-line site?

Even if they create an iPad app people won't fork out $ for their content. Without any visitors there will be fewer advertising $$. They can always replace the staff with cheaper FT but that would mean fewer votes for the establishment

iPad contents in full, will be free for six weeks, while they work out the proposed charges after assessing downloads.
