It has been months since Battlestar Galactica, the star attraction at Universal Studios Singapore, was closed. However, STOMPer TCH could not find any information about the closure on the Resorts World Sentosa website.

Why is Resorts World Sentosa hiding the fact that the most popular ride at the theme park is not working, wonders the STOMPer.

The disappointed STOMPer feels that by not disclosing this information on the website, visitors who come to Singapore to experience the ride might feel 'cheated'.

STOMP understands that the Battlestar Galactica ride has been closed for the past 4 months because of a design flaw with the cars.

As the design flaw might make the ride unsafe, the duelling coasters have been shut to prevent any mishap. The ride could be closed for more months and there is no date in sight for its reopening.

The STOMPer says:

"The Battlestar Galactica ride has been closed down for months due to a safety issue.

"However, there haven't been much news updates about the status of the ride till today.

"I visited Resorts World Sentosa's website to try to find more information regarding the closure of the ride.

"After surfing the site for about 15 mins, I couldn't find any information regarding the closure. What I found was plenty of banners promoting the Battlestar Galactia ride.

"Finally, I found a small link that said 'temporarily closed' on the sci-fi city homepage.

"The link brought me to the Battlestar Galactica ride's homepage where again, there was no information regarding the closure at all.

"I hope that Resorts World Sentosa will update their website with more prominent banners informing tourists and the public of the closure.

"We would not want tourists who came all the way to experience the BSG ride to feel cheated right?"

It is reported by the employee there that someone got killed when one of the seats from coaster fell off...

The case was covered-up...

Difficult to cover up if it is high profile guest, I know they open the ride for "Invited Guest" only.

If no one believed what I had written in this thread, so can anyone tell me why the police is involved in this case?

Anyone can see that something very fishy is going on...

Roller coaster grounded due to ‘flaw in design’ of cars
By Ion Danker – August 5th, 2010

392afp_battlestargalactica.jpg

Genting Group chairman and chief executive Lim Kok Thay says a “flaw in the design” of a car is causing Universal Studios Singapore’s star attraction, the Battlestar Galactica, to be grounded for more than four months.

“The ride is under a major re-design. Not the track itself. It’s a flaw in the design of the car that would not perform to the standards that we wish for it to perform,” he said.

He added that it was their policy to shut down the ride on “grounds of safety, not that there was any mishap or accident”, when signs showed it could have been unsafe after rigorous testing.

Police suspended the roller coaster’s licence on March 25 due to a technical glitch found during a test run.

According to Mr Lim, its closure has not affected visitorship to Resorts World Sentosa with crowds still heading to the theme park.

Some people Yahoo! Singapore spoke to are waiting anxiously for the ride to re-open and hope things are sorted out quickly without compromising safety.

“I was looking forward to taking my family there to ride it but it’s still not fixed,” said administrative officer Nur Diana, 28.

Sales executive Andy Tan, 31, felt that the theme park should reduce entrance fees since the main attraction is not running.

He said. “We are paying $72 for a weekend pass but can’t take the Battlestar Galactica. Don’t you think they should compensate visitors for this?”

Another visitor, Jolene Chua, 34, prefers to wait patiently before the green light is given for the rides to operate again.

“It’s better to be safe now than sorry later, so I would prefer them to take their time and make sure everything is fixed before re-opening the rides,” she said.

I interpret that as, if not stopped from running, people would die. There's no such thing as "mishap" or "accident" if the shortcomings are known. Therefore, it has to be stopped, until these shortcomings are safely fixed.

ALERT! Champion busybody spotted. He should be called ITCH instead, as I can tell the unbearable itch on his ass has spurred him on to do all these things that nobody asked for.

To even come close to assuming a post in the tourism department, what audacity!!

Problem is not with RWS

But our laws.

They don't protect the consumers.

In US, I can return everything I buy within 90 with some exceptions.
If something like that happen in Disneyland, They will need to refund all paying customers or face a lawsuit.
