Why mediacorp drama serial cast a middle-aged 43-year-old Tay Ping Hui pairing up with 20plus-years-old actresses?

There are sooooooo many other 20plus to 30plus male actors to choose from, why they cast this 43-year-old middle-aged Tay??

Somemore got that pretty 20plus-yrs-old taiwanese actress gets attracted by him in the storyline.

His intention was to rival the HK cantonese TV series that were hugely popular with Singaporeans so much so that streets were half empty plus the restaurants, cinemas etc. The Old Fart poached a number of reputable producers and directors from HK (Man Shu Sum and Long Jiang among them) and then boasted that SBC productions would surpassed that of HK's. In order to ensure this, he stopped SBC from screening HK tv dramas in its original cantonese form and deliberately had them voiced over in dull and lifeless mandarin. At the same time, the local productions took up all the prime time slots with the HK series moved to some unearthly hour. Or have them shown some 12 months later after they were released in HK.

And what is the result of our local productions today? A 43-year old Tay Ping Hui who wears the same expression regardless of the role he plays or situations he is in pairing with a girl who can be his daugher and having someone who is more like his sister (Xiang Yun) to be his mother. Has Mediacorp mandarin dramas surpassed HK TV series as the Old Fart boasted? We all know the answer. And the Old Fart is continuing with his evil scheme of downing HK series even at the age of 90. A young NTU student garnered a sufficient long list of names to have HK TV series dubbed in dual sound ie one can choose to watch in original cantonese but the evil old man had come out to openly object against that. And people are reading about his views of the world when he is so damn myopic.

He was pushing very hard for his "Speak Mandarin Campaign" and by allowing HK dramas to be screened in original cantonese would jeopardise all his efforts as no one would choose to watch a local mandarin drama over a HK one. So he deliberately forced people to wean themselves off HK dramas and with no choice switch to watching all the fucked up local productions.
