This Quora thread was sent to my inbox. I think this Dr Patrick Liew is trying to gaslight us.

Minister Chan Chun Sing can speak English well.
He was a President's scholar, which makes him one of the top students of his time.
He was educated at Cambridge University and graduated with First Class Honours in economics.
During his service to the nation, he has had to write papers and deliver speeches.
If he couldn't communicate effectively, he wouldn't have been groomed for senior positions.
Minister Chan cannot be expected to speak the Queen's English to Chinese towkays, aunties and uncles in grassroots organizations, and the common people on the street.
Obviously, he has to speak "Singlish" or "Benglish" to connect with the audience and make his points clear to them.
There is a body of knowledge on the values of authentic leadership, and we can see it in action in the way he communicates with the masses.
Those who know him and have worked with him can testify to a man with an outstanding intellect, deep insights, and high competence in discharging his role and responsibilities.
During debates and dialogues, I am amazed at his ability to grasp a wide range of issues, organize a chaotic diversity of ideas, and propose radical solutions that trigger lightbulb moments in people's minds.
There are few political leaders like Minister Chan who can persuade a diverse crowd, from Ah Beng to powerful head honchos, and align them in a direction that is for the greater good of society. It is a mark of true leadership.
