Many cyclists in Singapore are bastards!!! When they are sharing the road with the cars and trucks, they expect other drivers to give space to them (1m apart). However, they are riding at very fast speed at PCN and they expect joggers and pedestrians to give way to them also!!!

Bastard cyclists

Chill Sis,

I noted a number of good cyclists on the PCN too, they practice the keep left rule and when they do overtake, it’s from your right. They usually utter something like “on your right” or “bike on right” that kind of statement to the effect.

It’s those youths that I noted, especially those with blaring music going down the lane at high speed- they overtake from left, right, centre and everywhere. Those are nincompoops alright.

I cycle for the excercise. Away from bustling traffic. Very early on a sunday is the best. After that.bliss.body fully rejuvenated. Oxygented.

There's a horde of hipster cyclists in recent years. Not sure if it's due to the influx of FTs or a rise in the number of local cycling enthusiasts. East Coast Park Area C is swarming with them on weekends, lurking outside the bike rental shops. There weren't that many of them a decade ago.

everytime i’m in sg i would cycle from east to west coast and back on weekdays from 10am to 1pm, returning to either soy eu tua or springleaf prata on jalan tua kong for late lunch. i keep my cheap vintage colnago in siglap in a closet when i leave sg. it has carried me all over sg for the past 6.9 years. i always carry a 1st aid kit in a small pouch plus a bottle of water and hand pump. my phone hangs in my rear shirt pocket, and it plays fm channel 95.8 on internet radio. always nice to hear slow mo chink music of the 60s through 70s when cycling. plus from 11:30am to noon, it plays local and international news in several dialects. my ah bengness is still in there somewhere.

Cycling is bad for our economy.

General Director of Euro Exim Bank Ltd. got economists thinking when he said:

"A cyclist is a disaster for the country's economy: he does not buy cars and does not borrow money to buy. He does not pay for insurance policies. He does not buy fuel, does not pay for the necessary maintenance and repairs. He does not use paid parking. He does not cause serious accidents. He does not require multi-lane highways. He does not get fat.

Healthy people are neither needed nor useful for the economy. They don't buy medicine. They do not go to hospitals or doctors. Nothing is added to the country's GDP (gross domestic product).

On the contrary, every new McDonald's restaurant creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietary experts and nutritionists, and obviously, people who work at the restaurant itself."

If cycling infrastructure is done right cycling is a marvelous way of getting around and it is good for everyone. Best example is Amsterdam. If everyone who commutes by bike decided to drive instead the city would be in gridlock.

If it is done in an adhoc manner in order to virtue signal then we see the disaster that Clarkson is ranting about.

Actually cycling as a form of exercise is good. The main issue is cyclist cause problems on roads designed for motor vehicles and cyclists disregard the rules and treat themselves as pedestrians. This cause problems for motorists and pedestrians and often the real victims atr motorists who get into trouble eventhough caused by cyclists and pedestrians who get hit by cyclists. Just look at the rants of the cycling terrorists. How they abuse motorists.. and have the gall to ask why they are hated. Talk about scums of the earth
