I was surprised that a Hotel 81 licensee was arrested for allowing prostituition on the premises. Isn't it common knowledge that rooms are being used for prostituition

SINGAPORE: A licensee of Hotel 81 has been charged with five counts of allowing his rooms to be used for prostitution activities.

41-year-old Chu Poh Yong from the popular budget hotel chain is believed to have committed the offences at two of its branches between April 27 and June 19 this year.

They are Hotel 81 Cosy at Jiak Chuan Road in the Chinatown area and Hotel 81 Mayo at Jalan Besar.

Chu will be back in court on August 31.

He isn't the first budget hotel licensee to be hauled to court for allegedly allowing sex workers to operate in his property.

52-year-old Siah Chen Long who runs Shing Hotel at Kitchener Road in Little India pleaded guilty to a similar offence in April this year.

A licensee who knowingly allows sex workers to ply their trade within his property breaches the Hotels Licensing Regulations.

He could be fined up to S$1,000.

For a second or subsequent conviction, the licensee could be fined the maximum S$2,000.

The hotel's certificates of registration may be cancelled or suspended.

Its licenses may also be cancelled. - CNA/vm

i think the goverment is very very hungry ...even $1000 they also want .

Technically the Hourly rates for Hotel 81 are for transiting passengers waiting for their next flight. I would say its more like a grey area where it was never really enforced. Like a lot of laws in Singapore, as long as no one complains or rock the boat its business as usual.

Many 4- and 5-star hotels are also used for prostitution activities, I'm sure. Some of them with Temasek Holdings as major or significant shareholders.

Are you saying its a way to limit the competition

Businessmen can be very dirty :)

Then Ho Jinx must go to jail?

Society is very snobbish. Have you been to LA, or at least watched movies like Pretty Woman? If you bring a girl to a Hollywood Boulevard motel, you're bringing in a hooker. If you bring a girl to Berkeley Wilshire, you're bringing in an escort. If you're royalty, Her Royal Highness is your consort.

If you get caught by media or police, your lawyer is your last resort. :D

Based on their website, there are 9 Hotel 81s in the Geylang area.
A bit strange that the ones in Chinatown and Jalan Besar were charged.
I wonder if it's coincidence, timing or they are hinting that restricted to Geylang is ok, other areas are not.

Suggested adverts:

- Class C : 5 inmates to a room with a shared toilet, ceiling fan, suitable for those criminals who are plain broke. Some manual labours expected and will be scheduled three times daily to compensate for the subsidies.

- Class B : 3 inmates to a room with a shared TV and toilet, with aircon, suitable for lower-middle class criminals. Modest affordable charges. Basic exercises required daily for health and rehabilitative purposes but no serious manual labour as long as you pay your bills on time.

- Class A : A room to yourself, private bathroom (yes, bathroom, not just toilet), TV, internet, aircon and chauffeured limousine service to health club facilities. Daily subscription to approved SPH newspapers available, subscripton charges are extra and payable directly to SPH deliveryman.

We aim to make Singapore a global prison hub and ISO 9009 certification.

Killing a cockerel to scare the monkeys is what this is all about.:o:eek:

Annual cleansing ritual; make big hoo ha once a year to scare everyone to annouce the police are doing their job cleaning vice activities.

Does anyone notice it happens after the begining of the financial work year ?

Is that a YOG (Why Orgy) traffic lane along GAYlang?

Gelang actually means bracelet or any circular enclosed ornament in Malay. For those who remember the song Hotel California by The Eagles, I'm sure you'd also remember the most famous verse of its lyrics, "You can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave."

Quite right. The usual "let market forces decide" or "we have not received any complains" - the "live and let live" attitude. Unless they take on the gahment like holding a protest.

In high cost Singapore, budget hotels play a useful role in the economy - but perhaps for the wrong reason and publcity. Someone may have of rock the boat, or during this time of YOG season, not good for country image. Imagine the parents of those poorer countries athelete decide to stay there and got more excited that the YOG game?

Fuck lah...everything in this country is FAKE and full of acting.....raids for fuck? Just like GDP figures....ALL WAYANG and for show.

Where do they expect old, singles, and unmarried to go and FUCK? ParLEEment House lawn?
