It is common for half-Asians in North America and Europe to deny their Asian heritage. They may do so by even changing their surnames and dyeing their hair to look more Caucasian. Growing up in an environment where success, beauty and authority are almost exclusively associated with white people may lead to part-Asians distancing themselves from their Asian heritage while growing up. Many younger half-Asians are neither comfortable nor proud to claim both sides of their heritage.
