Spanish shot-stopper Iker Casillas has won the Golden Glove in South Africa after conceding only two goals all tournament.

In recognition of his quality performances that helped la Furia Roja to their first-ever World Cup trophy, FIFA has announced that the winner of the Golden Glove award in the 2010 World Cup is Iker Casillas.

The Real Madrid shot-stopper won the award ahead of Netherlands' Maarten Stekelenburg and Germany's Manuel Neuer.

Casillas is a veteran of the national side, with 111 caps, and has been recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

He was ranked fourth in the 2008 European Footballer of the Year voting, and also the highest ranked goalkeeper in 2009. The Iberian was also voted into the UEFA Team of the Year for a third consecutive time.

Thomas Mueller : Golden Boot 2010 World Cup Winner
610x.jpg

Germany's Thomas Mueller, left, receives his bronze medal from newly elected German President Christian Wulff, right, following the World Cup third-place soccer match between Germany and Uruguay at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Saturday, July 10, 2010

Four players tied in the top spot in the race to be top scorer of 2010 FIFA World Cup. David Villa, Diego Forlan, Thomas Mueller, and Wesley Sneijder are currently all tied with 5 goals each. Since there is quadruple tie, the award will be given to the player who has contributed the most assists and this is how Mueller won the 2010 Golden Boot (or Golden Shoe) award.
Mueller has a total of five goals and three assists. He scored his first goal for Germany in the World Cup opener game against Australia. He contributed two goals during their knock out stage against England and one goal against Argentina in the quarterfinal game. He scored his fifth and last goal in the tournament during their third place play-off game against Uruguay.

Villa of Spain received the Silver Boot award due to playing fewer minutes than Sneidjer, and Sneijder won Bronze Boot award for having played fewer minutes than the 2010 World Cup’s best player, Forlan.

Aside from the “Golden Boot award,” Mueller also claimed the “Best Young Player award.” His teammate Lukas Podolski previously won the title in 2006.

Forlan gets Golden Ball

x610.jpg
JOHANNESBURG - Uruguay striker Diego Forlan was awarded the Golden Ball as the World Cup's best player Sunday, and Germany forward Thomas Mueller won the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer with five goals.

Forlan was voted the most outstanding player of the tournament by accredited media after leading his team to the semifinals. Forlan narrowly beat Netherlands playmaker Wesley Sneijder, receiving 23.4 per cent of the votes to 21.8 per cent for the Dutchman. Spain striker David Villa was third with 16.9 per cent of the votes.

The 20-year-old Mueller helped Germany take third place with his five goals and three assists, and also won the Best Young Player award. Forlan, Villa and Sneijder also scored five times but each had one assist. Villa and Sneijder both failed to score in Sunday's final, won 1-0 by Spain.

Villa got the Silver Boot because his combined goals and assists total was achieved in fewer playing minutes than Sneijder, who collects the Bronze Boot.

Mueller wore the same No. 13 jersey as Gerd Mueller, the German great who was top scorer with 10 goals at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

Spain's Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove as the top goalkeeper.
