Besides the fat angmos connected with the F1 and the SCUMS In WHITE for boasting; what benifits?

Heard they are losing big money and wanted to cancel since last year.

Should not these millions be used to help the POOR in Chin Swee Road?

monetary value aside, this stupid fucking f1 race exert negative externalities on the lives of everyday sinkies.

lockdown much of the central area just for the enjoyment/ benefit of the priviledge few. retail shops and malls lost income as people avoid malls affected by the f1 race, precious time wasted as commuters/ pedestrians try to navigate their way around the blockage to their intended destination. i cld hear the roaring engines of the f1 vehicles from as far as honglim area and i really feel for the elderly citizens who resides in the hdb flats there as they have to put up with the annoying noise for a few nights every year.

go ahead and organise an f1 for all i care, but please do it at a proper venue and do not close down the city area just for that bloody nonsense. That's so not cool

this brings another point for attention. the above beneficiary industries are known to employ large number of foreigners, who will ultimately repatriate the bulk of their salary back to their respective home countries.

how much of this f1 profit (if any) gets retained in singapore? even if so, the bulk of it remains in the hands of a few connected ones. yea, the everyday sinkies can only get shit out of this f1 thingy.

Singapore is not much different from 18th century france where the ruiling class enjoy themselves at the expense of the peasants/ citizens.

...........................Singapore is not much different from 18th century france where the ruiling class enjoy themselves at the expense of the peasants/ citizens.

Sg has a wide middle (and working) class.

Even though they all share one thing - they're all fucked and always in debt, they do not have a similiar collective sense. The ones driving the Benz C-class and 3 & 5 Series Beemers wiil look down on those drivngn the Corollas and Civics, who in turn look down on those driving the Kias and Hyundais, who in turn look down on those driving the Kangoos and Cherys who inturn look down on those riding < 399 cc motorbikes who in turn look down at those taking public transport.

There is no common bonding or social cohesiveness. Everyone just wants to be "one-up" over his neighbour. Hence the will not unite.

Like pre-revolution France, the upper class cannot be reached, but unlike them, the working class do get some luxuries. Lot's bought tickets to F1, more watched the race on TV.

Cheers!

Agreed. But government and society doesn't care. F1 is a once a year affair, admittedly for the elites, but look at how many people (including some Primary school kids) who know and yak so much about the drivers, cars, teams.

On this account, just look around and see how money toadheads dorn Harley Davidson apparel, when they don't ride a bike.

Cheers!

Interesting article here for everyone to read...

I extract some sentence from that site...

Even if the president vetoes a bill, the Congress can override the veto. We have to realize that the Congress encourages fixation on the President so they can pass the buck, blame what they are doing on the Executive branch.

Fact is, Presidents have no Constitutional authority to do most of the things they claim they can do. They can only ask the Congress to do what they want.

event prganisers the biggest winner.

The money spun from F1 is huge, as the car munufacturers wil plurge.

Unfortuntely, there is only room for one F1 in south east asia. And looks like the sepang F1, the pioneer, will die a slow death as the manufacturers, who previously splurge in KL, has decided that sinkie is a better proposition.

But lucky for Sepang, petronas sponsor the race. at the expense of the poor in oil producing states of sabah, sarawak and terenganu.

Some common sense

F1 attract tourist -> Tourist spend money -> Shops earn money from tourist -> Bosses(Elites) make profit -> Guess who earns a salary from working in those shop and get a higher bonus due to increase revenue?

Unless we only have vending machines and automate everything else, the F1 helps bring in the tourist money and it helps create jobs. Just to name a few of those who benefit from F1 - Restaurant, Night Spots, Hotels, Retail Shops, Tour Agencies, Airlines, Event Organizers, contractors in charge of setting up the venues, Public transports, Cab company, "Integrated Resorts", etc.

1)require more man power -> 2)Create more jobs -> 3)Due to increase in number of tourist -> 4)Spending more money which brings in more revenue -> 5)Extra media exposure of SG to the rest of the world -> 6)Which will make more tourist want to come here -> Go back to point 1)

The benefits of does not just benefit the country/pple during the event itself. There is a lot of intangible benefits that get associated with such events. Throughout my travels, I know of many pple who have never even heard of SG let alone seen it, the media exposure given by this type of events help bring in more tourist money

Singapore to launch tougher public order law

WORSE THAN COMMUNIST CHINA: If the new law is implemented, police could stop small peaceful protests against unpopular visiting government leaders, activists said

AGENCIES , SINGAPORE
Wednesday, Mar 25, 2009
Singapore, which already has tough restrictions on freedom of assembly, plans to tighten them further ahead of a major Asia-Pacific summit in the city-state.

The Public Order Bill, introduced in parliament on Monday before the APEC summit in November, was needed to "squarely address gaps in the current framework to enhance the ability of the police to ensure security during major events" the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Under the proposed law, police could prevent activists from leaving home if they knew they were going to a political rally. It would also allow police to order a person to leave an area if they determine he is about to break the law.

I thought rules like this was already in place in the PRC for quite sometime!!
