Hi, I am visiting Vietnam soon. I would like to know what is the usual way to get their currency (the Dong)? I read that it cannot be exchanged locally. Also, they do not accept SGD over there. So does that means I need to get USD before getting VND?

Hi Limpeh,

Don't worry and don't bother about buying USD. All money changers in Vietnam accept SGD in exchange for VND.

Change some at the airport if you need cab fare, if you are going to Ha Noi then there is a cab service of USD15-20 that takes you to your hotel directly. If you are going to Saigon, then you need cab fare. The exchage rates there is normally lower at airports. Once into the city you'll get better rates at any MX.

Cheers,

make sure you spend your last dong before entering the departure hall. Dongs are not accepted there. Interesting !

luong duong or long dong?

vietnam is stupid to stick with a currency that sounds like a prick.
