Where to Buy Good Otah?

this is Sinka pore..... just like PAP, everything also moulded... from politicians to OTAH! WTF!!!

Thank you for politicizing this thread ;)

kOtahs sold by Malays are made of inferior quality fish meat. They are heavily coloured
red and taste sweet.

I like 小妹 Muar otah. Always buy them from Yong Peng whenever I return to Singapore from
Gentings. MYR6 each. Buy 10 get 1 free.

Think price has increased to RM6.80

In Batam you can find Otak at Yongkie & Dju Dju restaurant. These 2 restaurants are almost next door to each other, there is a money changer between these 2 restaurants. The otak is reddish in color. Yongkie is famous for the fish soups. I always pop in to have the soup. They use pomfret fish(ikan Bawal) & I think the other option is prawns??. Never tried the other option so I think it is prawns:confused:

If you want to try the white otak, there is a restaurant in Nagoya Hill 's food lane. It is the last restaurant, in the direction opposite from the Ace Store i.e. other end to Ace.

No more known as lee wee brothers.
Now is lee brothers.....they had an internal split some time back.
Branches all over sg.

Someone mentioned muar otak....muar is famous for otak but somehow find their version slightly different from ours.

About otak from indo....beware as many contains harmful food additives.

Hougang used to be famous for Sg otak now many imitation can't find the real thing. chiongsters will know an uncle on bicycle that used to sell to pubs and ktvs (otak seng).....makes the best hougang version. Not seen him around liao.

Best Malay otak from kg glam stalls before hari raya....chunky fish pieces and otak is direct BBQ never pre steamed.

Joo chiat got the mackerel otak one of the better ones around.

Otah in Thailand is known as hor-mok. The material is basically the same except that the cooking style lay be different most of the time Thais steam it although some do it on banana leaves and over charcoal like Singapore. Another different thing is the minced fish meat is a basic material and they do add chunky sotong, prawns and also fish into it so that it's nice when one bites into it.

Here's how they do it

Yes in restaurants they serve right affter that make in the kitchen. Some even stuff in coconut and steam

Thanks for posting your recipe. Back in Canada, I wanted to do a barbecue that would be unique over there and Otah is what comes to mind. My Italian neighbour did a Brushchetta for his backyard bbq and we liked it. During that time, I was crazy about bbq and grilled almost everything I ate. I loved pork baby back ribs over slow heat as it took a long time and allowed me to drink more beer while waiting. Otah will be very exotic and been wanting to give it a try.

Cheers!

I kept this recipe to test one day but I might as well pass it on.
