A care home for seniors in Eastbourne, Sussex, in the UK reportedly offers strippers and prostitutes to service residents, a move that has sparked an investigation by the local council.
According to reports this week, Chaseley nursing home defends its position in saying that "sex surrogates" are "therapeutic" and a basic human need that needs attending to.
The East Sussex County Council has launched an investigation into possible exploitation of vulnerable and disabled people.
However the staff members at Chaseley reportedly see it differently, that they are respecting the individual needs of their residents, mostly ex-servicemen.
When a resident requests a "special visit," staff can help rearrange their room if necessary, and place a red sock on their door handle, to make sure they are not disturbed, before checking on them every 15 minutes. Residents pay for all call girls themselves.
This isn't the first nursing home to assist in providing sexual services to its residents.
In Denmark, Kildegaarden nursing home caused a stir in 2008 after reports leaked that the centre’s nurses telephoned prostitutes on a few occasions for men living in the facility – nurses were legally free to do so in Denmark's municipalities.
In 2011, German prostitutes launched an elderly-focused service plan to increase business after taking a hit from online amateur prostitution.
Artemis, Germany's largest luxury "wellness" brothel, in Berlin established wheelchair-friendly changing rooms and showers with seats, reports UK newspaper, The Independent. In addition, the paper reported that a Berlin nursing home (which remains unnamed in the article) had set up a room "for intimate encounters."
