why would the everyday man care about how fast it takes to setup a factory or business processes?u saying singapore is a factory and the people automatons?what can u see in singapore pray tell?besides the dull non descript HDB flats whereever u go,the same boring cookie cutter neighbourhoods and town centers,boring shopping malls.even the population here seem so boring and lethargic compared to the wild outgoing everyday hustling australian ang mohs.....the pathetic parks and beaches that we call nature......iv seen nature in australia that would blow ur mind just 15 mins outside of the city that fills ur soul with beauty,the infrastructure in melbourne city is amazing,hundreds of years of elizabethan buildings and decor and beautiful streets steeped in tradition,everywhere i go theres the bustle of music and arts of artisans sharing their trades and talent......so much intensity the beauty and culture.......and non of the pretentiousness of our so called megamalls and prime shopping districts.....the amazing shops of culture from all over the world,greek,mediterranian,paki,russian,italian,german,china,vietnam,korea and whatnot.

whats good about singapore again?oh right,the amazing speed of setting up factories and abundance of cheap labour for ur capitalist needs.

Singapore isn't about parks and shopping malls and beautiful suburbs. It's about making money and an environment that facilitates enterprise rather than stifle it.

My experience in Singapore was very positive. I found the various government bodies to be extremely helpful in making sure things move quickly. After all, time is money.

Others may not have had the same experience for some reason so of course my perception may differ

Man arrested over serious assault in Dunedin

A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged serious assault in Dunedin's Octagon on Sunday.

A 19-year-old local man is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The victim remains in Dunedin Hospital and is progressing well, police said.

The alleged assault occurred around 8pm on Sunday during a dispute at a taxi stand involving five men and a woman.

During the altercation it appears a 38-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a bottle, police said.

An enraged learner driver allegedly punched the test officer who failed him on his test at an Auckland testing centre.

The officer was attacked by an applicant who had failed a practical driving test at the Meadowlands office on Monday, said Transport Agency spokesman Andy Knackstedt.

The testing officer was completing paperwork after the test when the applicant entered the office and struck the testing officer, Mr Knackstedt said. The police had been alerted.

Driver Licensing (NZDL) and NZTA were supporting the testing officer and were concerned by the incident, he said.

"While we understand that driving tests can be stressful and that failing a test is disappointing, there is never any excuse for threats or physical violence directed towards testing officers or others carrying out their duties.

"NZDL and the Transport Agency will investigate any concerns or disputes about the outcome of a test through an established complaints investigation process."

Mark Chapman, the general manager of the PassRite driving school - which was not involved in the incident - said learner drivers got frustrated from time to time, which is why it was crucial to have well-trained driving instructors who were suited to the job.

"A lot of it comes down to how the individual is handled at the time ... taking time and walking away and recognising there is an issue," he said.

"Being an instructor is a lot like being a school teacher and you've got to have the ability to not only teach people, but you've got to have the ability to coach and mentor."

Mr Chapman said while he supported the new, more difficult, driver licence tests, the cost of the tests was too high.

There were 15 reported incidents of verbal or physical abuse on driving test officers in the year to October 2013 and 16 others in 2012.

Costs adding up

• $96.10 for a learner's licence test
• $137 for a restricted licence test
• $111.70 a full licence test

• $47.40 for learner's
• $88.30 for restricted licence
• $61.70 for full licence.

Body was moved from murder scene - police

The body of a man killed in Christchurch on Sunday was moved from the scene of his murder to the property where his body was eventually found, police allege.

His body was found by police at a house in Earnslaw Crescent, Bryndwr on Sunday.

A scene examination at the address was continuing and was expected to be completed tomorrow.

A 22-year-old woman, whose name is suppressed, appeared in Christchurch District Court on Monday charged with the man's murder. His name is also suppressed.

She is next due to appear at the High Court in Christchurch on May 16. A plea has yet to be entered.

Christchurch police investigating the man's death today executed a search warrant and launched a new scene examination at an address in Conference St, central Christchurch.

Detective Inspector Greg Murton said significant activity was believed to have occurred at the address, resulting in the man's death.

A post mortem examination of the man's body was completed yesterday and his body has been returned to his family.

Neighbours of the Earnslaw Cres address said it was no surprise to see police at the address, but they were shocked when officers carrying hand guns descended on the address on Sunday afternoon.

A friend of the murder accused, who did not wish to be named, said: "I didn't see this coming - not at all. I'm really surprised ... she was a nice girl.''

I enjoy outdoor activities and open spaces. I also like the variability that 4 seasons bring to the life experience. NZ is one of the most sparsely populated places on earth and I was looking to get away from the crowds after 3 decades of crowded city living.
