About 200 SMRT bus drivers refused to go to work early Monday morning and instead assembled at their dormitory in Woodlands, reportedly over a pay dispute. Click here to read the story and for more pictures.
Dot bet you that the labour minister / union leader / police / SMRT will come out and explain the subtle differences between a strike and "refusing to go to work".
If SMRT is "in negotiations" with the workers, then it is a private business matter, not a national security matter. Why are the police SOC vehicles called in?
All they need to do is to bring the "Indian Chief" down to Cantonment Rd., & "Yum Cha"...shake the "trees" & the monkeys will fall... 200 ah tiong's drivers...can these jobs be given to locals...how many Malaysian drivers also? are they counted as local as in PR ??
SINgaporeans have no balls to "refuse to work", when their pay & bonuses they get is unfair...
haha first of many to come. bet the next group wouldbe the Indians FT, then Pinoys, etc. The flood gates have been open. worse the shitty times is trying all sort of linguistics tricks, double speak. all these China/ india / Pinoys are nothing but troubles.

Refusing to go to work refers more to an individual's decision. Strike involves more than one staff. It is orchestrated and organised with intent to achieve an objective. Maybe the current AG can explain better.

Now foreign workers dorms across the island all abuzz about the courageous 200. Will not be surprised that a few are seriously contemplating similar strikes too. I think the Panasonic incident must have inspired the PRC drivers. Will lim sia sway or TCJ take the fall if these whole thing escalate to a series of high profile strikes in coming weeks?
