The purpose of Ramadhan is about;

1. The Month of Spirituality or remembrance,
2. Devotion,
3. Jihad and;
4. Martyrdom.

In Muslim tradition, month of Fasting is also perceived as a month of jihad and martyrdom, a month in which Allah grants military victories to His believers. (References: Quran 3:121-127,173-174. / Quran 8:7-12, 42-44 /48)

It was during the month of Ramadhan that Muslims triumphed in many of their battles, among them the battle of Badr in 624 between supporters of Muhammad and a merchant caravan of the Quraysh tribe; the conquest of Mecca in 630. The whole objective of Ramadhan is to steadfast against infidel by emulating the battle of Badr led by the example of Arabian Prophet Muhammad.

The word "Jihad" can be found over 20 in Quranic verses. Although "jihad" can have several meaning but that does not dismiss the meaning of striving against disbeliever. The Arabic root for Jihad = ج ه د

In Islamic (Quran and Sahih Hadith) context, it is also means strive against disbeliever/infidel in Quran66:9.
  1. fight, battle
  2. Jihad, holy war
As you can see clearly that Palestinians are emulating their Prophet (Quran 4:76) against Jews; and also stirring Muslims world sentiments for support.

Thank you.
