What Happened To The Concorde?

Noisy narrow seats. Fast yes but still must meet flight schedule and contend with crowded customs and luggage handling.

Corp types prefer pte jets. That way after meeting they drive to a smaller airport and Gulfstream V waiting for them and ready to fly to where ever they wish.

pte jets? only in my dream where i won the lottery for tens or hundreds million of dollars.

That was a British Airways promotion. Complimentary upgrade to Concorde if you buy a full-fare first class ticket. Normal price is US$10k.

yup a discount or cheap ticket. i nearly want to do that, but i have no time during work, and i am practical person, dun want to spend so much, anyway, no one care if you fly to new york on concorde or boeing, you will not laid just because of that.

Good memory. It was the Malaysians who lodged an official complaint about the noise killing fishes in the Malacca strait and scaring their livestock. They then withdrew permission for it to enter their airspace.

If I recall rightly, it was our neighbours, the Malaysians that killed it. They complained that it was too noisy when coming in to land and taking off.

And I do recall it being noisy taking off and landing & PLA. Also, there was once when I was training in Tekong when there was this roar overhead. My colleague looked at me and asked, "Got airstrike?"

We looked up and saw the Concorde. It was beautiful.

i think malaysia complain, india complain also middle east complain.
but first to complain is USA.

I also complain if my complain mean anything. too noisy.

I think this was it. Probably some jealousy in play.

What I understand is, whatever airline whatever aircraft, all don't fly over Malaysia mainland (or the sky over any land) unless the destination is actually there. All flight paths are to be routed over ocean as much as possible. That's safety requirement as in case of a crash, it's most likely to crash into the ocean, not on land where there're people. That's why first thing they tell passengers on board is how to use the life jacket. There's no such thing as life jacket for crashing on land.

If you fly into Changi, u will notice that the plane overflies part of SE Johore. U can see all the towns and streets below, than u see the island of singapore.

Like I've said, over ocean as much as possible, but not always possible. For example, intracontinental flights in N. America, Europe-Russia, China, India, Africa etc. not possible not to fly over land for a big part, if not the whole of the route. However, for Singapore, flying over Johor is only a very small and unavoidable part at take-off and landing.

Inside the cabin, it was not noisy at all and no earplugs were required.

On arrival at Concorde check-in bay in airport, BA ground-crews extended top priority service to all Concorde passengers.

you did not get out your seat and walk to toilet or just walk around???
if you seated at the back, if you look to the front. The front is higher.

actually the plane is level. only the nose dips when take off and it is not that noisy inside the plane having flew many timnes, in fact seemed quiter than 747 although it is almost 20years ago. narrow aisle and I remember there is abig digital display at the front wall with a realtime speed counter in mach showing how fast you are travelling something like 1.5 to 2 mach. cool as trasnatlantic lon-NY flight is someting like 4 hhours. I think air france disband it due to environment reasons and russians tried to copy one with a Tupolev 144 version from what the pilots told me but alot of crashes as design was copied wholesale but engine, landing gears and software all crap

the wing of supersonic plane is different from subsonic plane.

subsonic plane wing are thick and contour, and tilt slightly 5 degree, so the cabin is level.

supersonic plane wing are thin and flat, to achieve lift, the whole plane have to tilt slightly.

maybe the tilt is too small and your visual have adjusted to it, but supersonic plane have to tilt.
That is for sure.

Ok none of you feel it. fine, too small angle i guess.

I never flew it, cause i am cheap, refuse to pay for such a ride, but when it is ending, i was too busy working, no time to go.

The noise is the concorde's sonic boom because it is faster than the speed of sound. Technically a passenger in the travelling craft won't hear the sonic boom since he is also faster than the speed of the "boom" sound.

Since you guys are on this topic and about the speed stuff. I have a question, which I have been asking many times.

If you toss a coin inside the airplane up in the air while it is traveling at super sonic speed, the coin landed in the exact same spot as if you are on the ground.

Why? I Know there is a science answer to it which is beyond my comprehension. Do any of you have a layman explanation?

Answer is not so much the velocity as it is the acceleration of the airplane.

Note that the coin was already travelling at super sonic speed when you toss it. It should lose some velocity compared to the airplane when it is in the air for less than that 1 second.

Why was the coin travelling at super sonic speed.

Let's assume, if you are tavelling on a open top car with the same speed as the concord, will the coin still travel?

What I do not understand is, what cause the coin to travel since it has no engine to propel it?
