SINGAPORE: It was historic day for Singapore's sports community as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong launched the inaugural Singapore National Games at Punggol Waterway on Saturday.

The ceremony, organised by the People's Association and Singapore Sports Council, attracted as many as 12,000 people.

"It's really great to see so many coming... to soak in the atmosphere, to enjoy themselves and to get ready to support the Singapore National Games," said Mr Yam Ah Mee, chief executive director, People's Association.

Mr Lee also met members of the 15 Group Representative Constituencies that had gathered for the event to celebrate the country's unity through sports.

"Sports is something for everyone. We want to see sports being used to develop the individual, to bond the community and to inspire the nation. This is why we have organised the Singapore National Games," said Mr Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports.

There was also a symbolic passing of the baton from national athletes to the participants, ranging from ages of eight to 80.

Over 5,000 people will compete in 10 sports across the island.

It ends with the closing ceremony in Bishan Stadium on September 9.

The singer at post #5 has delicious armpits. I would love to lick them :o

Its a recycled idea of the PESTA SUKA type games.... so that our KEE CHIU Chan can "score" points for his political masters. This is his highest contribution so far. any SAF Captain can organise something like this, if given the resources and manpower.

I'm not joking here, I really like to play 5-stones when young.

I thought the national game of Singapore is "How to avoid losing your job to an FT".

Some of the current popular games by potential nationals are:

a) "Sleep" in reserved MRT and bus seats when they are crowded and "wake" at correct alighting points.
b) Cycle on pedestrian pavements and against the flow of traffic.
c) Change baby nappies on fast-food restaurant tables and shit in public places.
d) Push prams in congested places and public transport.
e) Make plans for your sons not to serve NS.
f) Scrounge and exploit the system to the maximum and then run to western countries.
g) Break all traffic rules for they apply only to locals.
h) Throw used sanitary pads, curry etc out of the window in high rise flats as the norm in shithole countries.
i) "Marry" desperate local guys, become co-owner of their flats, then run road once PR is granted.

Can brothers add pl?

Hamtam bola was my favourite during recess time in the late 60s. That type of bola not seen in the market since the mid-70s.
