Serious What Alternatives to What Critical Supplies from China?

No big deal, the factories will move out of the country. Many have already moved.

China does not supply much food to Singapore, except for some canned food. Fresh produce, rice, bread, veggie, fruits, frozen food, food ingredients are mostly from M'sia, thailand, vietnam, OZ, US, Europe, etc. So I can't comprehend the panic hoarding of food. I just don't get it.

But I would think electronics sector would be hit badly, since a lot of components are from China. Taiwan, S.Korea and Japan could fill in, although it takes time and will be costlier. Construction materials and fittings too. Alternatives are available in Indonesia, Myanmar, M'sia etc but will be costlier. China is cheap and relatively good quality, that's their main draw.

a shortage of atb hookers may cause geylang prices to spike and contribute to inflation.

Not after Trump's tariffs. In fact it's now cheaper to make some of the products outside China.

Even before the tariffs, China is no longer the cheap labour sweatshop of the early-mid 2000s.

Maybe the government should replace all ATs with SEA right? Thais and Vietnamese don’t eat raw wildlife do they

Or even Indians? How about South Americans?

I can open my heart to any race in the world just not the mainland Chinese anymore especially not after this incident.

China has no religion no spirituality which is the major reason for the lack of protection from the gods and God and buddhas.

It's not the people, it's the govt brainwashing and socializing them for decades. Just like being influenced by a bad parent, some of those bad traits rub off on the child.

I think the PAP should look into investing into SEA. Especially Thailand & Vietnam.

I hate to say this but SEAs have in general better morals and better spirituality than Tiongs in general.

It is still the people. You can’t blame the parent for every thing after the children have grown up.

I think the PAP made a mistake in importing so many Chinese talents. They should have looked to SEAs right from the start regardless of the need to populate the dwindling local Singaporean Chinese Populations.

Yes, higher tariffs only affects US-China trade. Does not affect most of the rest of the world. They are still cheaper in comparison to other sources.

Not too sure about better morals and spirituality, some SEA factories can be challenging to work with. But I'll say this for Chinese factories, they are enterprising with a can do attitude, hard-working too. But one mustn't let them get the better of us, need to hold our ground whenever we feel they are trying to short change us. They are also aware there are hundreds of other factories that we can replace them with. In terms of price, they are cheaper than SEA countries. They know other countries can't really complete with them on price.

Chinese factories being cheaper than SEA factories depend on which industries don’t you think? Surely not every sector is won by the Chinese just because they are the cheapest around.

Are you talking about electronics sector or some other sectors?

I know for sure it is more expensive to purchase high quality gold jewellery in China than in Thailand for eg.

Most sectors I believe. This is why China is called the world's factory.

They supply cheaper cement, clothing, consumer electronics (fridges, air-con, fans, TVs, hand phones, etc), shoes, hookers, steel, furniture, ship building and so on. Don't know about high quality gold jewelry.

That is a serious problem ...it would lead to a spike in rape and other sex crimes. Time to bring in Sharia laws to prevent this from happening. Allah Akbhar!

Quality is not top priority. Rush products out and then deal with the issues later, or close shop and run road. Reopen another business to start the cycle again.

You are right about their quality. Prudent to always check their quality control just to be safe. Reject their poor quality and explain to them why.
